Am going to get onto my dealer asap about the new wheels, hopefully they become part of the black pack instead.

      • Looks like I slept and missed a year. Hopefully the factory orders help them forecast to start keeping some common stock in Australia.

        • Please for the love of god, keep some flippin manual cars in australia! If they were all the DSG6, I might have taken one, but no way would I take one with the handgrenade (DSG7)...

Why cant we get the DQ500 (wet 7spd DSG)?!?!?

Unfortunately, if you graph it & put in a trendline (lineal or 6 month moving average) the projection is still downwards. They aren't doing any better than 2011 even if they can consistantly deliver 400 units a month. Keep in mind that Superb sales (and the supply of the vehicle) are almost non-existant at the moment.

As an example of what Skoda are dealing with, my best friend lives in Balina. She was really keen to buy a new Octavia wagon when she found out they were <$25k da. She looked up the Skoda website for the nearest dealer (Lismore according to the website) and went to have a look.... except the Lismore dealer is only a service partner & sells VW. The nearest sales dealer is Southport Qld or Coffs Harbour.

The dealer suggested she look at the golf wagon & offered her a deal on a demo. She snapped it up because it was available now & her car runs out of rego next month. I think I'd regard her as an average buyer with average expectations.

Because it isn't fitted to any of the low torque engines - anywhere.
Because it would put 10% less power to the pavement.
Because it would use more fuel due to parasitic drag.
Because it would add more overall weight exactly where you don't need it.
Because physically it probably doesn't fit in the engine bay.
              Because cost.

              Probably a dozen other reasons.

              • Yes exactly. Dealers and delivery dates will put people off. The notorious dealer here in inner Sydney tried to push me to the Kia side of the showroom, which was really odd as all I was interested in was a manual wagon.

Keep in mind the flurry of Rapid and Yeti registrations last month and perhaps the figure isn't too great.

                • BTW: She said she wanted a manual. I told her this was good and stay away from the DSG7 as it was a heartbreaker. So she bought a DSG7

Obviously, it wouldnt be fitted to pov spec, but no reason not to fit it to the rs models. The 155 tiguan has the DQ500, and that has less power/torque than the rs

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

The RS TSI is available as both manual & DSG. The TDI is DSG. The DSG fitted is the wet 6 speed DQ250 which is a good, reliable & proven gearbox with plenty of headroom for engine upgrades.

I think fitting the DQ500 instead of the DQ250 would have more disadvantages than advantages if you look at all the production, marketing, packaging, servicing, handling & cost factors & not just the ability to take large amounts (600nm rating) of torque.

The tiguan is the same engine, in a similarly priced car, but with the higher capacity gearbox. Same engine, with this gearbox means that packaging is a moot point (it already is packaged with this engine!). More gears = better acceleration and economy. That would be the reason for putting it in (and I suspect that gearbox will start to filter through VAG cars with the 2L TSI). Cost difference should be minimal. Rated peak torque of the DQ250 is 350nm which is what the engine is currently putting out. So any life cycle upgrades wont carry any extra power/torque as the gearbox is not rated to take more (despite tuners finding it is capable of more). The DQ500 makes sense for an upgrade down the track to the model, as it improves acceleration/economy and is capable of taking more power/torque which the TSI engine has been shown as easily being able to make.

Not saying that it should come out now now now, but rather saying that this is a logical choice of gearbox for either a facelift, or the next model to come. Would be nice to have in this model, but we know that wont happen as skoda is the budget brand.

EDIT: Volkswagen Group DSG: the New DQ500 says dq500 is more efficient than dq250 also.....

There will be a part number for them, but I imagine they would need to be ordered separately via the parts dept and then swapped over. Might cost quite a bit, depends on if your dealer is willing to swap the factory gemini's for the black ones.

Not even the Golf R has it. And you'd think it would be easy since the DQ500 already works with the 4Motion on the Tiguans
