Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Thats correct, the 7's are a little colder. I had been picking up on some sporadic timing pull and had checked a lot of other areas for answers, a few people had suggested it could be some fouling or carbon buildup on one of the plugs, so thought I'd check them.

    The plugs cost me about $20, needed a long (10") extension bar and the plug socket as well.

    Did some logging, it seems the occasional pull at low rpm has gone, so happy with that. I don't expect to feel any real difference in terms of how they operate, cleaning the existing plugs would most likely have yielded the same results.

    I've only done about 23,000 kms, but I don't see the issue in changing them around this often given how cheap they are.

                  Why Conti's? I don't think they are worth the money.

                    I am not totally decided on them, but will probably end up choosing them coz they came with the car I guess.
                    Had a look through the tyre thread a couple of times, and am ok with the Conti's...
                    What did you switch to???

                        • I'm not a fan of black wheels, mainly because they don't stand out. I'm sure it looks good in the flesh.

                          T Go, I'm running Kuhmo's, they were cheap (around $100 a corner in Syd) and I think are slightly better rubber.

                          If you have a price on Conti's, have a look at what some of the other guys on here are using and see what you can get for a similar price.

                          I don't know much about tyres, but the Conti's come from Europe, so there is a big freight component in the price.

                              ?

                              Did you overtighten it last time? The only problem I ever see with our oil filters is the fact that they like dripping onto the ledge on the front side of the block as we remove them.

                              For me, things ordered this week:
                              * Oil + filter + sump plug
                              * Redline MTL for the gearbox
                              * Fuel filter
                              * Gearbox linkages
                              * New intake
                              * Pollen filter
                              Previous Rides: Polo GTI, Mx5 10AE, MY05 WRX WRP10, Renault Sport Clio 172
                              Current Ride: Evo 8 MR, Fabia MK3

                              • Didn't over tighten, just not the easiest place to access (and the filter changer tool seems to slip on the can). Yeah, got oil over the front of the block.

                                You're getting the Seat intake?

                                I've not looked at changing the fuel filter yet, should do that too...
