Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • Today I removed my Mondeo droplinks and replaced them with the stock ones.

Whilst removing, I cut back a small section of the plastic wheel arch that was very close to the Whiteline Front Sway bar as it may have been rubbing.

The droplinks were connected to the swaybar on the inner connection point. I relocated the connection to the softer setting.

Suspension feels more compliant and less rigid. Some of the go-cart bumpyness has been reduced and some noise from the front left has all but been eliminated.

Also think I've located the last section of my noise, seems to be eliminated under braking, leading me to believe the new brakes are rattling somewhere.

Getting close to having my car how it should be: fast, fun and no worries.

          • Looking good man. I was interested in getting the GTI steering wheel too. I was just curious did you use the standard Polo airbag or did you buy a Golf airbag with the steering wheel? Or are they the same size?

            • Thanks man. Yip, used my original polo airbag. Although mine came with the three spoke steering from the factory.

              • Interesting, I've always wondered if a Golf GTI wheel with the audio controls would work in a Polo.

                  • Another mod that I've been iffing and arring about. I wasn't sure if the Golf had the same size airbag as the Polo but awesome that it does. That was the only thing that was really stopping me, the steering wheel including the airbag was just over $600. The steering wheel alone is around $500. But for roughly $500 I'm sure that money could be better spent else where. Then again the steering wheel is nicer to hold.

                    • Gave my car a full detail inside and out with clay barring and polishing, then cleaned out my K&N (Absolutely filthy, no wonder I was getting poor fuel consumption on the highway), and fitted new Phillips high beams, to replace the piss poor standard ones.

                            • Installed the Seat Intake today. What can I say "WOW". Feel stronger through the rev range and the car feel so much more responsive. I have to keep telling myself to slow down or I'll get a ticket.

Going to drop the car in to get the rear control arm and dog mount installed this Wednesday. Hopefully the Whiteline RSB arrives before then and I can get it all three in the one hit.

                              • Gave it a wash and took it for a run in the hills on the Nerang-Murwillumbah Rd.

First time out in the twisties since it was chipped. The extra mid-range torque in third gear is awesome coming out of corners.
