Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

What did you do to your Polo today?

  • Nice one Johan, they're great upgrades! I noticed the polo was more rev happy with the ECS pulley and the engine seemed to rev harder with the colder plugs also. Did mine separately so you're getting a whole lot of love doing them at the same time
And I also recommend getting a Verdict Motorsport O2J aluminium shift bracket bushings to complement the 42 DD shift cable bushings. Gear changes feel more like an exotic car now!

And the short shifter IMO, did that last, all the changes were positive to me.

Sadly my new brake rotors arrived too late to make it to Jimmy, but they are here now, so I'll pop them on this weekend.
Great result then, where did you get your 42DD gear linkage bushes and what $$$? Cheers Al

          • Yeah must admit the gears felt really good Johan, im not that keen on quick shift though, seen to much carnage with over throw and stuffed syncros, worst case was an RS4 wagon i had to rebuild the box at Audi centre Brisbane, nightmate job as we had half the tooling. Young fella had his dads RS4 for the weekend and killed it. Quick shift if you know whats going on for sure though. Nicest quick shift ive felt on a dub was Trezzas R32 Mk4 if you remember it, it was tops!!!!!!

Well said Jimmy, appreciate your wisdom and experience. I will be looking at the upgrades to shifter apart from the quick shifter.

                  • Just ordered some green filter cleaner and oil and EBC 288mm discs + Redstuff pads to do a brake downgrade - new wheels won't show off my brakes like the Cayennes did so figured I'd go back to stock and get rid of the Porsche 4 Pots.

                      • Anyone have any issues putting the 42DD bushes on the Forge short shifter?
One of them was straight forward, but can't get the other one on no meter how hard I try

                        • There's some discussion about it in the group buy thread.

Basically, the pin on the Forge SS is slightly oversized to give a tighter fit to the stock bush while the 42DD bushes are slightly undersized to give a tighter fit to the stock shifter.

If you have access to a lathe, you could machine down the diameter of the Forge SS pin but most people (including myself) use a drill or dremel to ream out the 42DD bush a bit.

                          • Test fitted new wheels - even with a 15mm spacer they still catch on the Porsche Brakes by about 3mm. And a 15mm spacer up front on 8's means a little too much poke. Brake downgrade happening tonight - going back to stock calipers so I can fit the wheels, possibly will need to space them by 10mm to clear coilovers, but unsure yet. No pictures until after ILV this weekend! Porsche brake setup now for sale $1000 inc delivery.

1k Is pretty cheap, Try getting a new set from ECS, getting it posted and paying tax etc and you probably get cheap rotors

They use carriers that would come with the kit specially to fit the calipers to a VW and standard hoses also do work
