Did the remote central locking conversion on my sons 2004 Polo, also programmed 3 new keys to it, 2 were Fobs.
A Pain changing the "Central Convenience" ECU/Module over but easy doing the recode of the soft coding.
Used VAG Tacho 3.01 to get the Immobilizer PIN and then used VCDS to recode the ECU and program keys, both very valuable tools.
Took approx 1 hour overall..
Are those ebay turbos ok?

You are fitting another "secondhand turbo" but if it's used, it is most unlikely to have been a chinese copy.
There's a few running around that I have tuned on Golf 4 GTIs. No dramas with their performance. Ultimately it would be nice to buy new, they are expensive though and there's the likes of Frankenturbo etc that aren't a great deal more.
Finally have confirmation on what's wrong with my Polo after a checkover today... Turbo bearings are going, and it's rubbing/rattling.
Currently summing up the cost of replacing the turbo, to selling the car
Anyone know what the specs of the K03 turbo are to aide in my search? Are they all made equal, or best to track one down that came from the correct era Polo 1.8t engine?
Yesterday I was quoted ~$700 for a rebuild of my turbo. Also in the same boat, but seeking to maintain power levels so a K03s hasn't yet made the list. Trawl the below linked threads, you may find some info turbo swaps which suit your situation and budget. I haven't yet read through these links in detail.

Sean, Worth asking the outfit rebuilding your turbo whether they can highflow it (bigger compressor/turbine). Usual to only a few hundred bucks more for the new wheels and to machine housings. Was only a few hundred extra when I did it for my old skyline.

This is on the hybrid turbo on the red car which is already high flowed and tweaked with bigger wheels, ball bearing, etc. Disappointing to have to rebuild such a new, low km unit already. I'm yet to pull it off to completely diagnose, but symptoms point to the turbo.

Makes a bad noise coming on boost (1500-2500 rpm) which my mechanic believes to be waste gate chatter. We were able to validate the noise by plumbing a vacuum line into the cabin, though couldn't replicate on the dyno. Very strange. But the bigger issue is it's leaking oil from somewhere around the turbo and puffing smoke out the exhaust a few minutes after start-up. Also noticed bits of smoke between gear shifts when Gavin drove it on the weekend.
Will pull off the TIP this weekend and see if there's play in the turbo. It boosts fine, smooth and powerful. I had been ignoring it, but in reality needs addressing. Trying to stay positive, enjoy the project car experience... Though Evo, STI and RS Focus is becoming an ever more regular internet search.

Got the OEM TIP out today... ready for the silicon one to go in tomorrow, along with a new GFB diverter valve. I know most people would get it all done in one day - but I was expecting it to be a tough job, and would rather just break it up into 2 easy sessions. The amount of struggle every bloody hose gave me, I think it was a good decision
Might change the oil tomorrow when I jack it up again.. don't suppose anyone knows somewhere in Brisbane you could grab a quality oil filter on a Sunday? A hengst one or similar
good job mate getting it out is the easy part heheh getting the new one in is a pita i had to trim some of my hose was hitting on crap lol but in the end its well worth it and i have the GFB diverter good bov
