Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

really odd actually. was yours nice and smooth? this bumper paint is pretty chunky... and it leaves 'spider webbing' in the negative space. I might give it a go over with some fine sandpaper and do one more coat.

hmm sounds abit strange, the paint wasnt chunky for mine, finish is pretty smooth for the sort of paint. Ill get some pictures after dinner and show you.

I did all my painting in the sun, within probably 30min most layers where on. I put thin coat on then left it to dry for 5min then applied another coat.

edit, this was only pic that came out well at night due to flash bluring everything, but gives idea of the smoothness. Its a little more rough then the rest of my surround but only way to notice is to get down and compare it directly.

sounds a little more gruff (deeper tone at lower revs).

Have not had a chance to see what happens at the top of the rev range...
how much for the dump pipe and where from?

              cheers

              • Well under $400 from Castle Hill Exhausts (prefer not to post exact numbers on forum, feel free to PM me)

Not the most helpful of people, but the workmanship looks pretty good.

Had a chance to push it to the red line, power feels like it holds better where it used to die off a little at the top end.

There are actually 3 more things I want to get for my car...
The Dump Pipe, a bonnet and front bumper respray, and a Car Bra, so I don't need another front end respray...

                  • Happy with my recent 2.5" dump and full exhaust. increased power throughout the range, more responsive. and can hear a bigger woosh.

                    Next up

                    Forge FMIC
                    Forge TIP
                    Forge Diverter Valve
                    Forge Intake Hose.

Considering Angel Eyes too... seen pics looks mean... and blacken the front vw logo.,

                      Hey mate,

can you hear any difference in the exhaust tone / sound or just the turbo spool?

What else have you done to the car?

                      Comment

                      • Definately more meat in the exhaust tone, but not sounding rice. The custom piping was well tuned, there is a slight increase in drone in the cabin but as light as I expected. Looks dead stock to the normal eye too.

So far the mods done are.

                        APR tune
                        BMC Filter
                        Coilovers

Whats still on the way is the SEAT intake and LIP.

Basically with the forge I mentioned I just placed a deposit for it (FMIC built to order, might arrive in 4 or more weeks )

Thats probably about it in terms of touching the car.

Only some scratches and a bit of their paint on my rear bumper ... but FFS people are **** to do that

                          • Could it get any worse???

Over a month ago my airbag light went off on my lil polo. Took it to get scanned and it was addressed that my airbag harness needed replacing. Got that fixed and 3 days later the light came back on again.

Took the car back to vw and was scanned and investigated again, this time round it was the clock spring or slip ring that needed replacing blah blah. BUT oh no the part is on back order so you will have to wait 3-4 wks for it to come from germany. So here i am waiting and on tuesday i thought wow its been a while and noone has contacted me about the part.

I called in to VW and they service assistant said ohhh your booked in on thursday. My car was booked in without anyone informing me so lucky i did call in to see them. So i drop my car off this morning (got a golf tdi as a loan car) and went on my merry way. Went to pick up my polo today and my esp light is illuminated on the dash. Went for a drive turned the car off and on and it wouldnt disappear.

Arghhh back to VW, my car is staying overnight as the scan produced nothing and they dont know what is wrong!

                            YAY

How far did you drive? The light often turns off after a while when it's had a chance to reset. Mine's done it after a dyno run.
