Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Hey guys so just had my engine replaced after 10k km (1 year) of high oil consumption. It was around 0.5-0.8 l/1000km and I was coming in for top ups every second week. A few days before the replacement the engine went into limp mode as the spark plugs were fouled due to oil contamination. Only done 1600km on the new engine but doesn't seem to have moved on the dipstick. So fingers crossed it's all good from here. I have found the new engine is different in the way it spins/cools down after being turned off... Not sure if they had revised anything.

        • once again updating you guys with my latest saga with my 2012 polo gti. after my new engine refit did an oil consumption test returned with 450mL. essentially dealership couldnt do anything about it since it is within specs. So i escalated this matter to Volkswagon australia to seek for a better solution. fingers crossed. Cant handle this anymore sigh.

          • My Polo Gti is under engine rebuild because of the high oil consumption. The dealer lend me their service loan car for 3 days while waiting for the other car from VW Australia. But unfortunately VW Australia rejected the dealer's application for a loan car coz it didnt meet their criteria. And they mentioned as well that it is not part of their warranty. The dealer wants their service car back...
Now leaving me without a car to drive to work..

They probably feel you have sufficient public transport options...

mate of mine just got a hire car out of VW while his transmission was fixed. 1 car between 2 working people, one does night shifts. 40km drive to work. No public transport within 20km.

maybe you just have to suck it up & hire a car. Or ring Customer care direct

                    • Just a quick update on my Polo Gti engine rebuild & pistons replacement:

Because of the unreliable Volkswagen Australia not providing me a loan car. The Vw dealer in Deer Park decided to lend me their dealer service car for a few more days and they put my Polo under priority repair (was originally booked for repair on the 28th) and now, back on road with positive results. No more black soots after the engine break-in (thanks Yaks1974 for the great tips!)

I praise Kevin Dennis VW for great customer support, service & consideration..

With VW Australia you should wonder why you're losing customers...

                      • Hey guys.
Just got my car serviced at Garry Cricks in Sunny Coast last Friday.
Asked them re engine oil consumption ... Was told 500mls per 1000km travelled is within the threshold?? Is that correct ? I have the CTHE engine on my 13.5 GTI.

Also wasn't really happy with their service... They had the car for 7 hours, and wasn't even touched till I called them to check... Finally got my car back after 9 hours at the dealer.

Positive side - they did give me a brand new Tiggy to drive around which was surprisingly a nice drive, couldn't get myself to let it park itself though... Lol

                        Thanks
                        Harry

It is according to the owners manual.
They are meant to provide free top-ups.
How much are you using atm?

Humm... I should RTFM again ... Way too many things to remember
I am using just about or a little under 500mls per 1000k... So I guess it's within the threshold.

Free top ups? Not sure if the Hervey Bay dealer would be too happy. He refused to match my original quote when I bought the car!! Hence why I ended up with Garry Cricks. Not sure if he is willing to give me free engine oil... I'll go get a 5l bottle to keep at home saves me the hassle

                            Thanks

They'll top up the engine not give you the oil to take home
Any problems ring VAG hotline like i did with dealer name and person that served you.
