So that was after the engine was rebuilt? No better?

I'm on my 4th oil consumption test. Next step will be the engine rebuild, I believe. If that doesn't work, I may be in touch to get some advice.

Yep...extremely happy with how VWA came to the party and "refunded" my money.

We got a non-turbo, hassle free Ford Focus..just a simple car, hopefully with no issues (fingers crossed!)
Hell....after this experience with the Polo, I was trying to convince her to buy an ever so reliable Toyota Corolla but she likes the Focus so we went with that.

      • So I was told that the car is booked in for a complete engine replacement (cylinder head and the block) but all external components i.e. manifolds etc. will be re-fitted.

So does this count as a rebuild or an engine replacement given that the block and the cylinder head is replaced...?

Along with that I sent in a letter asking for a full refund according to our NZ consumer rights law, wasn't sure if they've gotten the message yet or haven't...

        • Block & head assy is engine replacement or long motor.

manifiolds, alternators, etc are classified as accesories.

Short mortor would be block, crank, rods, piston assy's.

Can't quite see how you will get a refund if they are attempting to fix the problem. It's only when the attempts aren't having any effect that you'll gain some traction with your complaint. I guess you are getting the process rolling so that can't hurt.

Don't forget to ask what the running in instructions are, any servicing instructions outside of what is written in the service manual (which should be free I'd assume) and after how many km they expect the engine will seal (get reasonable oil consumption).

Any significant verbal instructions or opinions should be followed up with a written comfirmation eg: "as per our converstaion, this is my understanding of what was said..." makes them stand by their word & not make stuff up that is denied later.

          • That is great advice, brad. Much appreciated. Part 2 of my latest oil consumption test is tomorrow.

              • Latest OCT, they claim my car only used 100 ml in 1500 km.
                Too good to be true.
                I don't believe it.

The autos in those focus have transmission issues, will be covered by warranty though.
I worked on Benz out of a Ford workshop (both owned by one company) and spoke to the Ford guys heaps.

True that, though it looks like they improve with software updates and/or clutch pack replacement - don't seem to have the mechatronics issues and fewer owners reporting ongoing problems after repair

After owning the GTI for about a year a half and having to bring the car into the dealership at least a dozen times for oil consumption issues, VWA and the dealership have finally taken the car off my hands (at a very good price I must admit!)
Must be a great feeling after over a year of frustration!

Congrats on the outcome and good luck with the new car!

                      • Hi all,

First time poster .. looking at possibly getting either Fiesta ST or Polo GTI. The one thing that puts me off the VW is the rumours of DSG issues and oil consumption issues. Just wondering if anyone knows whether these issues have been fixed on new Polo GTIs or is it still a lottery?

                        Cheers

I have a new my13.5 polo gti with the newer CTH motor and have had no problems with it at all.
It has had one recall for the DSG but that is it.

                            • I'd say if you like the look of the fiesta and don't mind manual get that. Love my polo and it's using a bit of oil but not much, that said the fiesta has a really good rap so far and I'm guessing it will have better resale.

                              • Thanks guys, wasn't expecting that from a vw forum. I'm guessing the 1.4 twin charged motor wasn't entirely a success given this thread....
