Had my 30k service recently and am getting an oil consumption test now (free). Don't think my consumption is too bad, but it's still a hassle to top up between services.

The car was still under warranty when the issue was pointed out. I've had a few consumption tests and refills then, along with a breather hose "fix" but to almost no avail.Originally posted by muli View PostLol how much did you use.
People getting charged for these consumption tests?
I got told straight away yeah we'll test it but under 500ml you pay at GC VW at southport

I was also told that even if the warranty runs out while they're still figuring out what's wrong with it (seems likely as my 3-year warranty ended last week) they're still going to do everything as if it's under warranty so should anything need be changed or etc. due to the oil consumption they'll do it for free.
The only I've paid for so far are the interval services, for anyone's curious how much the 60,000km service cost - it's NZD$373.

That's what I'd thought when I bought the car, it was going at a rate that fluctuated depending on driving situations - had an entire few months just driving around the city for grocery runs/work etc. and it was going on a rate between 1L per 800-950km, the lowest I've got was 1L/650km.Originally posted by Veeduby View PostHad my 30k service recently and am getting an oil consumption test now (free). Took the car to the bach at Kuaotunu and back couple weeks ago right after the oil was topped up and it was down to half when I came back a week later. The car was stationary for the whole week apart from one grocery run to Whitianga and back..

Well i got told it was at my cost at the first service after it was completed(15k) if it was under 500ml per 1000kmOriginally posted by 6316 View PostThe car was still under warranty when the issue was pointed out. I'd be finding a new dealership that doesn't want to rip you off.Originally posted by muli View PostWell i got told it was at my cost at the first service after it was completed(15k) if it was under 500ml per 1000km
I'd also be ringing VW customer care & asking if this was normal practice. Sounds like they are double-dipping & also trying to put customers off getting their car checked.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

S-mode is so aggressive, holding onto 3rd gear ad-infinitum, it is unusable for every day driving.
So you're not likely to find anyone who can answer that question.
Feel free to prove me wrong.
I know APR offer a DSG tune that softens S mode. Maybe someone with that could answer (better still, let us know if D mode, with the DSG tune, improves your oil consumption).

It would probably be a similar reduction but do you really want to drive around with the engine holding on to every gear as if a puppy would die if it changed up?Originally posted by POW View PostPeople seems have no oil issues if drive in manual mode, how abt in S mode?can anyone share their findings?

Based on the help I received from vw assist after emailing them, I would definitely not hesitate to get in touch with them. They are very helpful and keen to have dealers actually help customers and cut the crap.Originally posted by brad View PostI'd be finding a new dealership that doesn't want to rip you off.

Hi GuysOriginally posted by skoobysGTI View PostThanks for the advice and help
Just contacted the dealer and they say they want to leave the mineral based oil in my new engine for 15,000kms!!! That is ridiculous!
I have declined their plan and have written to VWA to see what they suggest.
After owning the GTI for about a year a half and having to bring the car into the dealership at least a dozen times for oil consumption issues, VWA and the dealership have finally taken the car off my hands (at a very good price I must admit!)
I have bought a Ford Focus instead for the wife. And even though its no where near as quick and zippy as the GTI, I'm just glad that I finally got rid of the Polo as it was driving me nuts!
Thanks to everyone for their input and help. If it wasn't for a few of you guys on here, I would still be owning a lemon instead of getting a refund on the car.
Cheers guys

So that was after the engine was rebuilt? No better?
I'm on my 4th oil consumption test. Next step will be the engine rebuild, I believe. If that doesn't work, I may be in touch to get some advice.

I'm going through a similar sorta thing right now too... Have been looking at MKV R32s around lately with one dealership interested in taking a trade with cash my way for the GTI. Fingers crossed.Originally posted by skoobysGTI View PostHi Guys
