Our MY12.5 Polo GTi has now done 22,000kms and it's used right on about 2L of oil in that time, so less than 100ml per 1000km.I guess we're lucky?
Yes, lucky indeed.
For the record mine has used about 4.5L in 18,000 km, so consistently around 1L per 4000km. Oh, and the breather pipe mod hasn't changed that at all. Seems way too much, but apparently better than some.
After breather pipe mod at 1st service and a consumption test passed with only 100ml used. Have done another 1000+km, and my oil has not dropped. Very good progress after a consistent 1.5l per 2-3000km.
So fingers crossed the breather pipe has worked on my engine.
Was driving directly behind a Fabia vRS this morning for about 10 mins on my way into town. Due to the oil consumption issues with these engines, i decided to watch the exhaust closely to see whether i could see any smoke. I didnt have to wait long - almost every time the car took off from a stand still, smoke puffed out the exhaust. Admittedly it appeared grey/black rather than blue, but not something you should be seeing from a new car.
Have any of you guys ever asked a friend to drive your car while you follow behind and observe?

Your car is MY13? How many pipes or items were replaced?

As far as I'm aware this happens with all Polo GTI's. It's another consequence of the engine running rich under high load to cool down the charge and stop it detonating.

I was behind a Tiguan TSI a while ago and noticed the exact same thing – smoke every time it took off from a standstill.
Same thing with a friend's Brera 2.2, although that is an Alfa so it's expected
