A few pictures from the 42DD website:

It looks like they have a nice bracket to keep the exhaust away from the tail shaft:

    Some nice looking welding:

Be interested to see how these go.

      Thanks for that, Lucas, Damien!

So how much restriction is there further 'downstream' or can i just continue to run the rest of the exhaust as stock?

There's a reducer/coupler to connect back into the stock cat-back:

But would there be a 'bottleneck' there in the flow of exhaust?

Which is why Ramee has gone for a full 3" system.

In reality though the exhaust gases has cooled by the time it reaches the cat-back section and therefore has compressed so there's less restriction than you would think. Also the larger the exhaust system the more likely you are to get drone which is something that you'll want to avoid for a daily driver.

With the 42DD down pipe I'm sure you could get a flange and continue on in 3" instead of having the reducer. The main bottle-neck/restriction is with the hot exhaust coming out of the turbo which the 3" DP removes. This piece is going to give you 90% of the benefit.

Keep us posted on how this goes... and also on the shipping costs. Would be great to finally have an off-the-shelf solution for the Tiguan.

Remember to ask for a bung plug for the O2 sensor as you will need one.

Thanks for the tip, Suffolk. Just making some inquiries now on size & weight of the package as my GF is going to the States in a few weeks & may be able to lug it home for me if not too big & heavy...

Have you installed your friends yet?

Also, could anyone advise if stainless would be a worthwhile option, & whether or not i could get away with the resonated test pipe version, as far as noise goes?

Stainless is mainly for looks (unless you have salted roads and corrosion is an issue). The resonator in the mid-pipe is interesting but will depend on what you're intending to do with the rest of your exhaust as to whether you want to move the resonator to the midpipe or leave it where it is.

If you put the resonated version in and leave the stock exhaust on then you'll end up with a double-resonated exhaust... so only if you're looking at modifying the back section. Resonator in the mid section would make some sense then.

I don't think the GF will lug it home, very heavy!
I still haven't installed my mates yet but it looks like a easy job.
He is waiting for his bung plug which wasn't in the box.
I agree with tigger73, stainless steel just for looks. Get the resonated test pipe version.
When I looked at my mates downpipe, i noticed the box inside saying Magnaflow Exhaust Products, Universal Catalytic Converter. All the sections of the downpipe had this, with original labels.

I have several spare O2 sensor bungs if you need one MGV. Stainless would definitely be worthwhile for you seeing you park right along side the beach almost every day - definitely worth the extra $200 (and it looks much nicer too).

The downpipe is pretty heavy 12-15kg and comes in a rather large box - not something you would want to be carrying around.

Jump under your car and see if your resonator is part of the cat back section or the dump pipe. If you dont know what you are looking at, then take a photo and upload it. If its in the cat back section (like a MK5 and MK6 GTI) then you would not need the resonator. If your resonator is part of the stock down pipe (like MK6 Golf R) then you would want to option the resonator in your new downpipe otherwise it will sound horrible.

"Test pipe" basically means no catalytic converter, which reduces the price of course but also makes your car illegal in Australia. Definitely make sure you request the catalytic converter when you order.

So you want the "street series" which includes the catalytic converter. Resonator is optional depending on your current exhaust setup. Stainless i would recommend paying the extra for.
