Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Update, my mate decided to get his 42dd downpipe fixed as it touches in too many places. Poor design and not worth throwing away, since he spent that much. It ended up being too short in many places and wasn't bent enough in various places. Modifying it will cost you at least another $400 to make it fit correctly. Be warned.

Good news! At least he decided to go forward and get it fixed It may not be that bad to fix I hope, I have seen in some cases exhaust system fitted to one car will not fit correctly on another similar car due to bad design, custom build etc.

Hope MGV don't get a heart attack !! hehehe ..

Will post up my experiences the week after next... I ended up opting for their stainless version & will be getting Lucas_R's recommended exhaust guy to fit it up for me.

Suffolk, thought i saw somewhere you had a stage II tune, did you get a custom-build pipe made?

I hope it works out for everyone with one of the new 42DD DP's. All the pain will be forgotten once you have your new stage 2 tune

Now that i'm over Ramee's cruel use of emoji's, i'll just wait for my girlfriend to trolley/drag/push this pipe home to me from the other side of the world & reserve the right to judge the product on my own experiences rather than a single case of negative feedback from someones mate... It may just turn out to be a beauty!

i am a little apprehensive, though...

I was lucky enough to get a Apr downpipe in 2010, before they stopped selling them.

                    • Hmmm, lucky! Did they stop making them entirely for the Tiguan, or just stop exporting them?

On a side note/question, what is the lifespan of an exhaust system? One reason i went for the stainless one was that i imagined it to be longer lasting than mild steel, & live by the sea...

They (i.e Harding performance/ APR Australia) made few of Tig down-pipes locally. But then discontinued due to lack of demand. Not cheap though 2000 AUD for down pipe alone I believe.

I am sure a SS downpipe will last the life time of the car. Catalytic converter in there may not be that lucky though.

                        • Customs (either here or in the US) must have thought my new pipe might be a grenade launcher! Completely repackaged, with 'INSPECTED' stickers!

I've just made my way down to Sydney to collect my pipe & there is not a single thing in there with the word Magnaflow on it. Maybe the stainless ones are made in-house? Anyway, all looks pretty good except for a ding with a shallow cut that i would probably blame customs for... There was a note in the box saying to let them know (42DD) if any components were damaged, & not to install. Have emailed 42 a photo, will wait & see what they say.

Keen to hear how it goes.

                              • Here is a pic of the damage:
                                .
                                [/URL]
                                .
There is nothing rattling inside the cat & it still feels quite sound.

Do you reckon i could just run a bead of weld along the the shallow cut & give it a bit of a light file?
