Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • And they will sell with/without cats as some states in the US allow cat less systems. Here you need a cat.

Not 100% on fitment . Have heard there were some issues with 32DD units that were meant to fit Tiguan.

    • I'm resigned to the fact almost anything will need further fabrication. I suppose as long as is not a cast pipe is going to be manageable and I'm just trying to limit that component to reduce costs.

I've heard about knocking the first cat out, but you'd still have a restriction of the smaller stock DP diameter.

Yes unless you go with the modded stock DP you're going to need to visit an exhaust shop.

It's not the best solution but it does have a guaranteed fitment. I don't think performance is going to be as good as a 3" DP but will be better than stage 1.

Unfortunately nobody has done the comparison testing for stage 1 vs stage 2 with modded stock DP vs stage 2 with 3" DP. It's going to come down to budget and how far you want to take it in terms of additional performance mods. In terms of bang for buck knocking out the top cat is a pretty cheap upgrade. Though other people will rather keep their car legal from an emissions point of view... not that this has ever stopped some manufacturers in the past

        • Will knocking the cat out change the sound/ produce dsg pops?

          • What's the difference between the US model and AUS model? Don't they share the same platform and are therefore identical?

The modified DP section which bolts onto the back of the turbo is to allow higher flows/less restriction. If you go for a larger diameter (3") it will just add a slightly deeper bass sound to the engine note coming from the front/under the gear shift area.

For DSG pops/farts you need to change the rear section of the exhaust. Stock system has a large suitcase resonator and a muffler running under the rear bumper. You'll need to change these components of the exhaust to get a different exhaust note/farts.

I had a system with only a sports muffler and no resonator for a month or so but it was too loud and my wife hated it so I got a Magnaflow resonator stuck in which quietened it down. At moderate throttle it was very liveable but still allowed a decent noise at WOT with nice DSG pops.

If you run a non-resonated system it will sound like a race car [emoji13]
