Another possibility is to go a hybrid K03/K04 turbo. Better down low than a K04, better up high than a K03. That would however require a custom tune (Custom Code possibly?) which may or may not be a route you want to explore at this time.

I have driven K04 TSI's and to be honest not much of a loss down low IMO. Not enough to not make me want 1 anyway

I will be going K04 on the Amarok in due course .....

If you were regularly tracking the car, or taking it down the strip, my recommendation might be different. But we have no full-time strip in SA, and Mallala is a fairly horrible track too, so... pass.
Yes given the hills is pretty much an 80km/hr zone there's not a lot of point I agree.

It looks super-effective from the outside, and feels properly strong from the passenger seat.

You do feel the extra weight of the Tig (over a Golf) when accelerating hard above, say, 60km/h, and there's no question that it does get breathless in the higher reaches (just like any k03), but that's not taking anything away from this car - it's a mighty impressive bit of kit. Looks the goods too.
Thanks for sharing the drive and also use of the timing gear. I'll have to see if I can edit the video and get this up later in the week.

Not much you can do about the weight of the Tig as a lot of it is built into the chassis. Only thing you can do is add more power

Love seeing road bikes take off from a standstill....even without trying they are miles ahead from the rest of the traffic. Would love to have a run against something quick to see it pull away from me. I've run a few Harley's (which are so damn slow despite that horrible noise they make) but never run anything worthwhile.

I was just an amused spectator .... lol .... heading home on the bike latish 1 evening, this scenario unfolded in front of me .... so at the 4th set of lights, I had to show them the difference between 6s 0-100 and sub 3s 0-100. Never saw either again after that ....

Actually, unless you use the LC, the manuals will almost always (at least 95% of the time) win the traffic lights GP. The hesitation off the line in non LC mode costs the DSGs equipped cars too much time to make up in the (normally) short space available.

I watched with amusement a 370Z giving a R a hiding 3 lights in a row the other night .... even though they are almost identical in their official 0-100km/h times, the moment the lights turned green the 370Z jumped 3 cars ahead and kept that distance till the next brake point. DSG did nothing to beat the good old fashioned manual. Poor fool in the R kept on trying and the 370Z kept on winning ... lol
Yes stomping the right foot is about 1 second slower than with LC and it's all in that first bit off the line that you lose all the time. So even if you're up against a "slower" car, if it's faster off the line the DSG car is going to lose every time. Like your friend inthe R who was up against the 370Z.

Unfortunately the LC is such a process that unless you have a planned race with plenty of time to prepare yourself (eg 1/4 mile drag strip or a runway etc) then you don't have enough time to set it up. Traffic light GP's are not the right place.

Your right Damien - using LC at a set of lights would look pretty silly wouldn't it.
And yes running LC at the traffic lights GP is a bit over the top.

Although OBD port timers are good, I ran some back-to-back times with my Auto-polar FIS+ vs Gtech and I know which time I'd have more confidence in. Not that 0-100 times are really that important just nice to know what it is with some reasonable sort of accuracy.

It's certainly an advantage for the ungifted driver.

    Thanks team_v.

Yes it hooks up pretty well using LC. I think there is possibly another 0.1-0.2sec in it with some lower profile tyres and playing with shift points.

I am currently running 245/45R19 and the next set going on are 245/40R19. Change in rolling diameter will go from slightly oversize to slightly under but give me more torque

Also be interesting to see what effect this has on the dyno figures. The guys on the dyno said it will make a difference as it changes the gearing of the car.

Sub 6 second time is still pretty quick today. There's a 1 second saving just by being able to launch it off the line. Plus slick DSG gear changes will beat manual changes every day of the week. All that is down to advancement in electronics and speed of processors/sensors that are available in today's cars.

I'd like to take a bit more credit for it but that time is nothing to do with the driver but more to do with the engineers that have worked to generate the power and then get it to the road in the most efficient way possible.
