It's taken a bit of time to get around to editing this one, however here's a recent video of using launch control on the Tig. Expert iphone camera work by AdamD:
Launch control knocks around a full second off the 0-100 time
Well who would have thought that such a little box would have such a big effect on how the car drives.
It has definitely improved how the car gets off the line. "Red" is just a bit too enthusiastic for day to day driving but "green" is pretty much right.
May play with it a bit more before pulling the plug on the switch.
Yes but then you have to tune it and for better or worse I've headed down the APR path on the tuning front. Also if I'm going to put a K04 into the Tig, I'd want/need to upgrade the brakes at the same time... Then it would be a real weapon. But seeing as I'm not tracking it or putting it down the drag strip there doesn't seem to be much point.
I'm really interested to see how the Sprint Booster goes in conjunction with my DSG tune.
Sorry guys no turbo upgrade on the cards here. Not unless I get a small windfall and even then it's unlikely.
Got the Sprint Booster installed. Relatively simple except I couldn't find a way to get the pedal off without busting the tabs holding it to the floor. Oh well I guess I'll have to upgrade the pedals now too
No opportunity to test tonight. Will probably find the setting I like and pull the plug on the remote.
I'm gathering this wouldn't require any change to the tune then.
Be interesting to find out the cost... Though sounds like you still may need tore move the turbo which is not a small job.
This guy did the work himself so cost was not much. But yes, turbo needs to be removed, which is a lot easier to do on a FWD GTI. May as well move to a K04 (and port that before installing it) i guess.
This is the guy who just did the port and polish on a K04. He then had the manifold ceramic coated and now is putting a turbo blanket over it to keep heat out of the engine bay. http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showth...88#post1472588
There's a guy in USA who removed his K03 from Mk6 GTI and had it ported and polished. Got good gains from it (proven on dyno and 1/4 mile). I'll find the thread.
Another guy stole his idea and is now doing the same with a K04 on a Mk6 GTI.

Another possibility is to go a hybrid K03/K04 turbo. Better down low than a K04, better up high than a K03. That would however require a custom tune (Custom Code possibly?) which may or may not be a route you want to explore at this time.
I have driven K04 TSI's and to be honest not much of a loss down low IMO. Not enough to not make me want 1 anyway
I will be going K04 on the Amarok in due course .....
I hear you. Just trying to justify not spending the money. And you're not helping my cause.....
