Unfortunately the missus doesn't like it. "Where's the chrome? This is the bit that I like."

Though personally I like the look as before there was too much chrome in the one place - and nothing else on the car anywhere

I think it looks a bit more aggressive and a little less fussy.

I also found out why there's a blanked off section in the lower grille. Right behind it is a big chunk of styrofoam. So not much greater air flow with the top section of the lower grille opened up unfortunately.

Front grille off, remove lower grill and cut out mesh a little oversize:

Install by cutting slots in grill to fit over tabs. Finish with zip tie around back of tabs to keep the mesh in place (through it's pretty firmly in place anyway):

Fitted some smaller pieces of mesh in the upper grille to tie everything together:

Added some plasti-dip and re-install to give the final result:

Yeah that is going to be the interesting bit. I'm still not 100% sure how it's going to work either - thinking a number of zip ties and try not to modify things so that I can revert back to stock if/when the time comes.

I've currently got fly screen stuck in there which will likely come out. This mesh is quite a bit more structural than the fly screen though so I'm hoping that attaching it securely in a few locations is going to be sufficient.

Also going to apply some plasti-dip in the process to "unbling" a bit of the chrome....

Hopefully I've collected enough brownie points to get enough time tomorrow to take the front end off and put a new grille in...

The grille is halfway between the 2011 and 2012 facelift. Reason that I'm half looking at it is it's an OEM part. But at $1200 somehow I don't think it's going to make it on my car....

I'm more inclined to get the lights. Will be enquiring into pricing and also availability in RHD. Plus check out wiring harness/ adapters and compatibility with my control module. Though I'm still in 2 minds as I'd much rather OEM/Hella parts.

Shouldn't this post be in the spotted thread???

Thanks mate. Should've stopped and said g'day... Unless you were on a job.

An R-line front grille for the 2008-2011 model:

I've priced these up but it's about $1200. VW has them in stock locally. I'd be tempted to do it for $300-$400 but $1200 is seriously a lot of $ for a few bits of brushed chrome trims.

The other thing is some aftermarket headlights with new style DRLs:

I've been told these guys will manufacture these lights in RHD

Yes I've toyed with buying a "sport" button, getting a bi-modal exhaust, active suspension and perhaps hooking up the Haldex and Sprint Booster as well but then I figure if I really wanted a sports car I probably should have just bought one instead of trying to build one out of an SUV.

However I would consider getting one of those soundaktor units hooked up to a sport button and reprogram it to pipe in an R32 engine/exhaust note. That would be pretty cool
