Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yes it looks to be the same/similar tool. The autotech HPFP replaces slightly different parts on the fuel pump compared to the VIS upgrade so you need a slightly different tool for the job.

I'm thinking of just getting the tuning done and not worrying about the fuel pump now. I've hear conflicting reports on whether it's actually required or not. Will just have to keep an eye on requested fuel and fuel pressure.

I'm running the TTE475 now but just with a low boost file. I'm really happy with how responsive it is even running at 20psi. Yes there's a bit more lag than with the stock IS20 but the thing I was most concerned about was ending up with something that is really laggy.

I'm thinking that a good DSG tune will also sort out the responsiveness also as it should keep the revs in the right range to maintain boost and fast shifting to complete the package.

Initial round of road tuning complete.

Running a low boost (~23psi) file on Caltex 98 (behaves like 95 under boost).

I’ll stick it on the dyno soon to tune a higher boost file and “proper” 98 (BP Ultimate).

Nice one Tigger! Is that with a dsg tune and launch control ? What sort of power at the crank are they estimating ?

That’s with LC and DSG tune. LC is set to 4,000rpm but they have taken a fair bit out of 1st and 2nd gear for mechanical sympathy so it actually doesn’t launch quite as hard as stock. Also it was mildly moist last night so traction may not have been the best.

It’s going on the dyno at the end of next week so should have a before/after comparison soon.

Does the TCU tune have adjustable LC ie you can dial in higher RPM depending on amount of throttle- mine is set to 3000 at 1/2 throttle, 3500 at full throttle and 4000 with kick down. So depending on the conditions you can pick a suitable launch RPM.

What sort of power do you think you’re running? 250 kw atw?

I read the recent post on the Haines Facebook page that they’ve dropped RD Technik and gone with E Tuners Motorsport. Which tune did you get and are you still supported ?

Not sure on adjustable launch RPM may have to try that out later.

I’m nowhere near 250kwaw at the moment. I would say more like ~200 is my guess.

There’s 3-4 psi more boost to put in and each psi will give you 10kwaw give it take. Plus the fact I’m running a low spec/grade 98 fuel means I can’t run anywhere near as aggressive timing.
