    Exterior and Bodywork

Ceramic coated the paint using Nova EVO. Washed, clay bar, polish, ceramic coated.

Also did the wheels to make them easier to clean...

Talking about black packs I've just ordered some Forever Black and will be blacking out all my lower trims:

After speaking to a painter it all got expensive and hard. You really need to remove all trims from the car and the labour involved plus risk of damaging body panels in the process just wasn't worth it for either party.

Considered vinyl wrapping but that has it's own set of challenges and realistically plastic panels would need to be filled and sanded before wrapping (so you may as well paint).

Which left me with plasti-dip or plastic restoration/treatment. I decided to go down the latter path as I did plasti-dip on the 125TSI Tig and although it turned out OK I'm keen to see how the Forever Black goes as it has some good reviews.

Delivery!!! Now to paint my grey trims black [emoji3]

Painted the lower trims last night:

I'm 90% happywith the result. There's some streaks in it which I'll have to fix up but that comes from putting the second coat on in the half-dark. It still is a different colour/texture to the body panels (to be expected) but it does blend in a lot better than the grey plastic.

It's easy to apply and simple to clean up any paint that has touched a body panel/silver trim with a wet cloth.

In comparison to plasti-dip which I've used before the Forever Black is a little harder to get an even finish (due to brush applicator rather than spray), however I think the finish is better and certainly less "rubbery". Time will tell how it stands up.

*** Update. the forever black didn't hold up that great. Whether this was the surface preparation, however it started to flake/peel in places and look patchy requiring semi-regular re-application. ***

Some before / after shots at the workshop:

      Teaser shot...

      Ceramic coating on progress...

And just for the record on my high accuracy bathroom scales the HRE FF15 in 20x9 ET35 weighs in at 11.4kg

Ok got the Kapstadts on the scales and they weigh in at 13.5kg:

So FF15’s are 2kg lighter per corner and also 1” wider

HRE FF15’s fitted up. Specs are 20x9 ET35. Sitting just inside flush

Stock run on the dyno. 141kwaw isn’t too shabby!

Ran some stock 0-100 times today...

Using G-tech 20Hz GPS timer. 8 satellites so decent level of accuracy. I ran a couple of runs in each direction on a flat road so results are reasonably consistent.

VW claimed figure in their brochure for the 162TSI Highline is 6.5sec so this is confirmed

        After R600 intake install:

Ran some timed 0-100’s this morning.

Was quite surprised with the results:

So that’s 0.4sec off the stock 0-100 time just from an intake!

        After lighter wheels

After fitting up HRE FF15 wheels with a 2kg reduction in wheel weight I was able to achieve approx. 0.1s improvement in 0-100.

Totally unscientific but it is repeatable and justifies completely the investment in lighter wheels.

Tyre pressures 38PSI all around. Ambient temp 23degC. Clear day and run at 10m above sea level (give or take a couple of metres). Actually run on same toad as previous run and one pass in either direction within 0.01s so we’ll call it a good result.

        After Wagner intercooler installation

Well as I originally suspected putting a significantly larger intercooler on actually has had a negative impact on performance. Not a lot but a little bit.

Ran a 0-100 this morning and was 6.14s or 0.1s worse than before.

This was actually what I thought was going to happen with a larger volume intercooler to fill.

It doesn’t concern me that much as I know the stock intercooler is going to be too restrictive at higher flows once the new turbo is fitted and the car is tuned.

Wheel installed in the wheel well. Boot floor sits marginally higher at the top setting.

I may look at modifying the boot floor when I have a bit more time to get a more flush fit.

Ok took some shots of the tyre well with full size 17” Tulsa wheel installed.

One of the limiting factors of fitting the floor with full-size wheel is the handle on the floor which protrudes into the subfloor area:

So I decided to try removing the back off the handle to get a little more clearance:

          Only busted one clip [emoji21]

In case anyone is trying this here’s what the clips look like:

Boot floor sits marginally lower now:
