Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Shame the Kapstadt's aren't 20 x 9 as they're a great looking wheel, looks are the reason I've left mine on for the moment.

Interested to see the weight difference between your new wheels and the Kapstadt when you get around to weighing one.

Yes they’re a good looking wheel. They suffer the same fate as all other stock wheels when lowered as they disappear inside the wheel arches.

HRE’s are getting fitted up on Saturday so I’ll post up some pics and stock Kapstadt weight once they’re off.

      • Nice wheels. I'm jealous of the weight difference from the 30kg 20" Suzuka wheels.

30kg is wheel and tyre. Estimating tyres to be around 15kg so the bare alloy wheel is around 15kg. The HREs save a good 4-5kg per side.

Anyone changing tyres on their Suzukas yet? Take a set of scales to the tyre shop and get a wheel weight.

Have seen someone post 29kg combined. Based on pirelli website tyres are around 13.5kg leaving 15.5kg wheel?

              • 30KG that's pretty heavy load on axle , almost 50% more than my S-line 18 inch with 235/55/r18 New Conti6 model tyre with total weight only 22kg per wheel .But kapstatd looks really nice with gunmetal colour ,would be nice match with my Tiguan in tungsten silver

Looks awesome. Any noticeable ride/handling improvements with the lighter setup?

                      Looks good Tigger!

Maybe use your Gtech to see if the lighter rims improve your 0-100.

Nothing major. I have only run around the streets but possibly it’s a little less sprung weight over bumps. Still have to get weight of the Kapstadt.

Yeah I’ll weigh stock rims and if there’s a significant difference then I might look at rerunning the 0-100.

Ok got the Kapstadts on the scales and they weigh in at 13.5kg:

So FF15’s are 2kg lighter per corner and also 1” wider

I'm really not sure how much of a difference 2kg per corner is going to make. But if I wake up early in the morning I might do a couple of g-tech runs just for a bit of an experiment.

I've decided to put my stock Kapstadt's up for sale: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ml#post1287355

This will help to fund the rest of my build, so you get new wheels and I get to install a HPFP and get my car tuned win-win

Let me know how you go with the gtech run, I know there are many variables, but this would be a good practical test of the unsprung weight theory.

What tyre pressure did you end up running?

I noticed your addition to your mod list of the HPFP, I was saying in the other thread this might have been the differentiator between the TTE475 and L450 builds. Now it’s a more level field, I’ve got my popcorn and waiting now for the build, dynos and/or timed runs.....
