Gaucho: OK - thanks for the response. As you will doubtless already know since you purchased a "genuine" Ross-Tech product 2 years ago, the cable isn't delivered with software. Unlike fake cables which come with their own out-of-date software on a CD, users of genuine RT cables must download the associated software from the RT web-site.

My suggestion is to do just that with your genuine RT cable - go to the webpage HERE and update your software to the latest version - problem solved!!

If your genuine RT cable is operating on such an old software version, then you run the danger that it is incompatible with the newer (24 bit) MIBII control modules - which can cause serious problems (assuming that you haven't got HEX-NET)! For no other reason than this - it's definitely a good idea to update the firmware in your cable which will happen when you load the newer RT software version

As you will also doubtless be aware updating to Ross Tech's latest software is done at no additional cost to the user. Why have you not done this since purchasing your cable "like 2 years ago"?

Odd that you have persisted using such old software for such a long period of time with your genuine RT cable when there is such an easy no-cost option to update that provides such obvious benefits..........hmmmm!!!. Of course, the risk of destroying a fake cable by updating to the newer Ross Tech software doesn't apply in your case because it's a genuine cable - just an odd co-incidence (I think)

Have a great Brazilian Christmas and a safe (and truth-filled) New Year!

    Don

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

    • I have not used the cable ever. When I bought it said "genuine cable". My car was still on warranty. Now that it's not anymore I thought about doing some modifications. That's why I am asking if the ones I've listed are compatible with it. I know nothing about vcds.

One more thing: this is not ross forum. So I'm starting to being annoyed but this intrusion with my cable origin and etc. I've asked some simple questions, if you don't have an answer for what i've asked I don't want you to interfere with from where or anything else about my cable. I hope you understand.

Ya gee DV52! it's clear you don't contribute anything at all to the VCDS thread, and obviously have no knowledge or devoted any of your time to understand and help other members with their often complicated VCDS questions.

          Bugger off will you? [emoji12]

Merry Xmas to you and your family, and thanks for all the help you have provided throughout the year! [emoji3][emoji106]

Ironic guy right? I've made it very clear I was talking about the cable origin thing, nothing else. I don't know DV52 since I am new to the forum. I have no reason though to not believe he is a great contributor.

Well, you have certainly got a way to:

              A. Introduce yourself to a forum as a new member

              B. Blind side one of the most knowledgeable member on VCDS on one of your first posts.

Well done. And your question has been answered by DV52, update your software and you are good to go. It's free.

About B I will not go into it again, thanks. I believe DV52 as a mature person certainly understand that there's no wickedness in my post.

                • After I made the change to get rid of the warning message on the infotainment screen, I noticed that the car graphics are now station wagons? Amy idea how to change it back to a hatch?

Jimmyjames: Not sure how this has happened, but I suspect (guessing really) that your MIB thinks that it's installed in a Golf Sportswagon! The way that the MIB is told about the identity of the car is through Bytes 0-3 of the code-string on the module @ address 5F. Here's how these Bytes are structured:

What are the values of these Bytes on your car? If these Bytes are 027300, what is the complete code-string on your car

See screenshot. I've got a MY17 GTI hatch.

Jimmyjames: OK "Golf Variant" works for me - it looks like this:

Kind-of looks like the "station wagon" on your first post. If you check the Codinglog.CSV file that lives in the Ross-Tech/Debug directory on the laptop that you used to make changes, you should see a record of when the change to the code-string was made to the car. Just look for records that have Address 5F in the first column.

Anyway, try changing the value of these Bytes to 027300 - as per my screenshot

                        • is it possible to set the "CAR" page of the infotainment screen to always begin in the 'SINCE START' page (i.e., not in the vehicle status page) ??

Awesome thanks for that. I think I worked out what I did. I used the long coding helper to deactivate the safety warning.

I think as I was arrowing down through the bytes I must have inadvertently scrolled through the drop downs to select the Variant in the first byte. Anyway I copied the original coding from the log and then changed the 2 to a 0 to disable the warning again. Voila, I have a GTI hatch again on the screen. Cheers!

                              Anyone with experience in this?

                              • My Vehicle status only shows up first when there is a message such as door open or fuel needed, otherwise what comes up first is what I last left it on.
