If you're talking adhesive residue, then try some eucalyptus oil or some (pure) isopropyl alcohol (just don't let it drip into the doors or on the seals etc.

Certainly not for some hack to do that... and TRUST ME, you do NOT WANT them to do that! It's bad enough they need to wash your car.
You could of course paid them some ridiculous sum of money for their "protection products" (mostly snake oil), but again, you don't want them to do that.

It's up to the owner to ensure that the car is detailed and protected once they take delivery. Like it or not, you are far better off this way from a financial point of view, and your car is way better off this way from a look, projection, and on-going easy of maintenance point of view.

You can either take it to a detailer specialist and get them to apply your choice of protection, or you can go to a store like Car Care Products and purchase your choice of protection and apply it yourself.

There is much more information, including products, advice, how-to, and detailer specialist recommendations in the Bodywork/Trim & Detailing forum

Nah, you just need to get a good wax/sealant/base on the car and then use good washing products - again, see the detailing forum

    • Thanks Corey, but I own shares in car care products with the amount of product I have.. just means a weekend of clay, polish and waxing is all..

As for the residue it is not really visible unless the sun is at an angle then you can see all the spotting everywhere.. I think I will just have to keep hitting with window cleaner and washing till is cleans away

I just got back from supercheap and picked up a wedge shaped wheel brush which fits perfectly

Sub install. Colour not an exact match but flash makes it look a lot worse than it really is

Nothing to show as far as the speaker install is concerned because they're behind the OEM grills

Thanks for the photos police state, it looks good!
If you were really wanting to match the material around the sub perfectly, I'm sure you could order a replacement boot liner from Volkswagen spares and then use that to redo the area around the sub.

Oh cool! That looks like it'd be a great time saver for the Talladegas. Thanks for the pic and info

          • a whole $3.99 if you can stretch it and it was at the Norwest homemaker centre SCA , there are 2 sizes, this being the larger but when wet they should do the trick.. I also picked up the Megs super soft wheel brush as well to get the reach into the wheel well

            • Hey mate, nice neat install! What size sub are you using and is that a pre-fab box or did it get custom made? If pre-fab,where from? How much room is behind the factory tweet local front and rear? I'm looking at putting in my focal utopia splits in,thing is the tweeters are huge and oval shaped. One last thing, are you running those amps of the factory head unit? If so,you must be using a high/converter as i'm sure the factory head unit has no pre- outs? Are you getting any engine noise?

                      • Xciteu,
I had it all installed by a third party, so I can't really answer the question on the tweeters. The sub is 8" as it was a nicer fit than a 10 and it is a custom made box.

You may have trouble with the Utopias and not just the tweeters. The front doors have less depth than the backs and they had to install the shallower Focal 165KRXS instead of the intended 165KR2.

                        • Hey all

WHenever I start the car and drive normally and get the car to warm up, during initial take off, the engine has developed an almost diesel-like noise? Its not as pronounced as the diesel engine sound you hear in most oilers, but from in the cabin, it sounds like that in 1st and 2nd....VERY lightly but its a strange noise nevertheless. I dont remember it doing that at all?

But the thing is, after driving it and the car is warm, the noise goes away? any idea what it can be? its done just shy of 10K kms...and no engine mods on the car except a GIAC flash stage 1 and a sprintbooster

IMHO all TSI engines sound a little diesel-like at idle. There is a knocking sound.

Thanks mate, strange that the rears have more depth than the fronts?? Was hoping with a spacer put in behind the factory grills I could fit the utopia's,the front locations look quite pumped. Are you getting any engine noise off the factory headunit?

Nope not a thing....nice and quiet

BTW - apparently the fronts were quite an effort on the install. Drilling out rivets, removing glass etc. I guess a lot of this was to be able to install the dynamat?
