Nah pretty easy mate, just a firm yank and the biach comes off.Originally posted by Prodigy View PostCheers Fab, so is the engine cover difficult to remove?
3 or 4 rubber grommets attached via brackets to the engine hold it on.
BTW, dead pedal covers (L&R) for the R will have in stock next week....will send you pics as soon as they land.

The PCV problem (same as the early DVs) has been fixed with later revisions of the PCV. Small issue. When you bring in the car for a PCV or DV issue, dealers have been told to replace both at the same time.Originally posted by Corey_R View PostHeh - the fuel efficiency isn't really debateable - the TSI in the MK6 GTI is definitely better fuel efficiency than the TFSI in the MKV GTI, and the "PCV system" which was apparently problematic in the TFSI ends up handling things better around the track (in the R) than the TSI (in the GTI) !
But yeah... that's basically the summary.

have got to spend more time with the Golf manualOriginally posted by Ryan_R View PostWhen the Shifter is in D - move it to the left to enter manual mode. You can then push the shifter up/down to change gears, or use the paddles, which will hold the gear as long as you like (unless you stop - it'll go to 1st by itself).
In D mode my TSI will use 7th gear at speeds as low as 50kph. If I want power I just push on the throttle harder and it'll drop to 4th or 5th. If I really want power, I'll engage Sport mode and accelerate and within 2 seconds my speed has increased by around 30kph (that's with the APR tune).
... yes that worked, have no concerns about DSG at all now. Just turn it off!!!
the sun is trying to come out in SE Qld., I might have a drive up and around the Mary Valley....Black 3dr, DSG, ACC, 19" Black Talladega's, Heaps of Goodies - Double Tint - APR Stage 1 - Delivered and Lovin' my R

Quick question. Does everyone who got the Dynaudio upgrade still have some grey polystyrene padding at the heal of their feet when driving. I get the feeling that this may be covering the amp (?), but makes the car look cheap and find it hard to believe that VW would do this.United Grey R: All the accessories (leather, not Recaro's though), S2P paddles, Kuftech DVD in motion. Carbon grill, mirrors and diffuser awaiting to be fitted.

Oh, ok. But the polystyrene padding is supposed to be there?Originally posted by Corey_R View PostThat's the bluetooth kit.

My wife has been driving the R a bit the last few days (maybe as I've had a bit much xmas cheer at functions!) Anyway a comment she made is that compared to her Jetta TFSI the R feels sluggish or laggy (her words) After much discussion it came down to two things:
1) It's partly the way the new DSG programming in D shifts up as quickly as possible in the Jetta (is a MY06) it takes a little longer to get to 5th or 6th and
2) The 2.0 TFSI has greater torque earlier and less lag compared to the R's 2.0 TSI
However she did say that when the revs are up it flies
I don't really notice this much as I tend to drive it manually most times unless caught in traffic and then I do notice it, however might consider the Stage 1 upgrade from APR soon.
Has anyone else who has a Mk V or even Mk VI GTI upgraded to an R felt this or driven both back to back (I could read the GTI v R thread but that's too long) and do you feel it's a DSG thing, lag or both?WLF127

Firstly the 2.0L TFSI uses the smaller K03 turbo which spools quicker than the R's K04 turbo (great for city driving due to less lag)Originally posted by shakespeare View PostMy wife has been driving the R a bit the last few days (maybe as I've had a bit much xmas cheer at functions!) The MKV I find are more connected thus making the car "feel" more responsive IMO.
I doubt the DSG would matter as the R & MKV Jetta uses the same wet-clutch 6 speed.
I've always said the GTI is a city friendly car whereas the R is great for the open road.

Heh... you should try jumping from a Stage 1 Polo GTI into a Golf R and back! Driving the Golf R in D makes it feel like there's a 50cc lawnmower engine under the bonnet or something. Switching to manual helps a lot. But yeah... need to get some mods for the R to open her up a bit!
In every other way the Golf R rocks
