Our Golf R had its day at Lakeside recently. My brother had his there also. We had a top day and even the Audi R8 was not as quick until he went to slicks. My brother also went to Qld. Raceway last week and was the fastest car there against hot Nissans, V8's, a Porsche Boxster and the like. He is very happy indeed. The R with a stage I tune is a fabulous track day car. It was my first time on the track and I found it easy to drive with loads of grip in corners (even on the standard road tires), fade free brakes and amazing acceleration on the straights. I was surprised at the ease it overtook Commodore V8's and even a Porsche! More practice is required on my part but the R is one of the fastest track day cars out there. Fantastic fun. Looking forward to the next one.

You would think so adzy but both R's overtook him at least once! He had pull in a straight line but the R has better handlingit seems. He improved when he changed tires to slicks but not by a lot!Originally posted by adzy View PostAn r8 would spank a golf r!Bockey

What they said, I was rounding up a GT3 all day on Thursday along with other things. They were just driving slower because in no reality is it possible for an R to do that even with the same driver.
Interesting to see so many R owners hit the track, 6/10 owners agree, the R must hit the track! (90% of stats are made up)Last edited by dave_r; 31-05-2011, 10:47 AM.

I didn't get off to a good start on this forum or for that matter any VW Forum. My Golf R was a dismal failure in the performance, or at least what I was expecting in the way of performance. I apologise to any person I upset, but the truth was that it just didn't go like it should.
I can now say that things have changed dramatically - The Golf R is finally performing to expectations, if not better.
The car is now a beast - Bluefin remap and a few tanks of fuel and what a change.
Other changes are a new set of Work Wheels (special order in black) with R logo in wheel centre - inside is a RNS510 with video in motion.
I am now completely satisfied with the car.

Also happy to hear everything is now as it should be. Did you ever find out what the problem was?Originally posted by rd415 View PostI didn't get off to a good start on this forum or for that matter any VW Forum. Which shouldn't have happened as you had a geniune gripe with it. It is just some owners are not able to take any sort of criticism of the car they own and will come down hard on anyone who criticises their pride and joy. Not your fault really and really sad as one can't really be honest about what one sees as failings about any car on the forum because some people are just too thin skinned.Originally posted by rd415 View PostI didn't get off to a good start on this forum or for that matter any VW Forum. I'm coming from a high powered RWD 200SX, into a "factory" spec Golf R. I know it won't be as powerful (or perhaps as fun?), as the 200SX, so I'm hoping I won't get the same disppointment. I can understand some people going from a (normal) car (Corolla, Falcon, Magna etc) would think the Golf R is like "whoa!". But coming from the opposite direction it (could) be disappointing. This is an exaggerated example, but it might be like someone coming from a Lamborghini to a HSV GTS. They might find it an extreme disappointment. Whereas someone coming from a Hyundai Getz to the HSV would be like "OMFG! I need new pants".Originally posted by rd415 View PostI didn't get off to a good start on this forum or for that matter any VW Forum. ^^those comments are just in general and aren't directed at anybody. It's just food for thought.
But the reason I quoted you rd415 is (firstly to get your attention
), but also - I'm looking at doing a Bluefin remap straighta way. Just to give me a basic idea, out of 10, how would you rate the Golf R before, and after the remap? 1 being "OMG, this hunk of crap, I wanna sell it" to 10 being "I want this car to have my babies."

They will build a custom tune for your R and i have only heard good things about them.
Bluefin isn't bad though and Jmac on the forums here works with them from memory.
