If you think it's bad enough driving around town, wait till you tack it to a track and have to wear a helmet!
Yeah I'm aware of how much the cabin shrinks when you put a helmet on... last trackday, every left turn resulted in a *thunk* as my helmet hit the roof
Anyway had a good fidget just then and I've figured out what I was doing wrong - I had the seat in the lowest position. This forced me to lower the steering wheel column onto my knees, which forced me to move the seat backwards, which forced me to tilt the backrest forward, which made the headrest very annoying.
I noticed that if I raise the seat, not only do I not look like a midget from the outside, but I can have the steering wheel column further away from my knees for a given forward/backward setting. This allows me to tilt the seat back and still be able to reach the steering wheel!
God help me once I need to readjust everything after my wife drives the car though...

The last time I was at WSID I borrowed my friends helmet, which is a motorbike one. It has the pointy back, and it was a bit of a pain. But I agree with dave_r, if you're using a car helmet, I can't see an issue for most people.
Question to the brains trust.. I am experiencing the drop out and freezes north of Gosford on the RNS510.. went back to get it looked at and the dealer loaded up the latest 4.1 software via the CD/DVD player.. does this do the firmware..? and what version fixed the issues ..?

Every time I've been driving one of Guy's cars down from Queensland for some event they have done this around Ourimbah/Gosford.
The Transporter did it too from memory.
It's NSW's answer to the Bermuda Triangle......
what exactly is meant by "drop out"? does it run out of maps, lose GPS reception or crash altogether? (requiring a restart)
The whole unit crashes and resets. I will even be using the MDI and it will black out and restart about 3 times. A firmware upgrade was supposed to address

Yeah SilvrFoxX, there are threads around on that topic, not just in the Golf forum. I believe the resolution was with the v3 maps... which is puzzling cause that's what I would have expected was on yours to begin with.
As for whether the map discs contain firmware, or if they do whether they automatically update the firmware - I'm not read up on that stuff... there are just too many RNS-510 versions and firmware versions and bluetooth modules that I haven't kept track. You're best to look in the VW Car Audio and Electronics where the experts on that subject hang out. Your question is already answered in several threads there, I just don't have the time to look right now
