Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Not bad at all. If my GTI ever saw a dirt road I'd consider them.

My R always sees dirt roads.

Mud flaps are the work of satan and should be treated with the contempt and scorn they deserve.

Looking at the hundreds of stone chips ruining the lower doors of my MK3.5 Cabrio killed it for me. Sure, it looks like an old mans thing but i can live with that as I'm an old man. ;-p

maybe I'm misunderstanding but i'm talking about proper, made for the vehicle, moulded mudspats. Not flat sheets of rubber screwed onto the car with self tappers.

Times recorded on a Racelogic PerformanceBox.
James, I got the times/data from Ben (Machine) on the weekend from when he took my gtech out to the drags, average 60-120 was mid to high 5s. Best of 5.5s across the 4 runs recorded. Which if I recall correctly you mentioned the average manual shift speed of .8s, DSG of .1, makes em lineball on power. But the difference of DSG in shifts, WOW. Even banking on .5s manual shifts, that's at least 3 shifts for the quartermile. In Ben's case, shifts are close to 1s, according to the g's. So .8 is a fair approximation.

                0-100: 6.7s - 7.1s for the runs.

Comparing gtech to the actual drag strip times, the most accurate run with within 5/100s of a second, varying up to 0.5s. Trap speed was within a few km/s. The main reason for the variance in times I would quess is due to the roll-out and where the car is staged on the strip, as once it was rolling, it was quite consistent at .5s slower than that recorded by the strip timer (slowest/most "inaccurate" run 15.38 on gtech vs 14.8 strip timer). Interesting on that run, everything was slowest, 60-120 being 6.7s.

Fastest 0-100 on the night was 6s according to the P3 gauge, which is more accurate than the gtech. Avg in the low 6's. Just so no one reads that and gets their knickers in a bunch
The time sheets have been posted in the willowbank thread under meets n events.

Back to mud flaps and other inane topics: Anybody know why the one touch roll down makes the front windows stop just short of the bottom?

Not to make it a pi55ing comp, the P3 runs off the ECU to calculate all perimeters doesn't it? Factory ECU's are typically a few whiskers out of whack for speed which would account for the variance (I'd assume).

As long as the readings are consistent, it gives a base point for gauging improvement in performance as you modify.

EDIT: Just read up on those gauges. Seem to awesome pieces of kit.

Or if you're tight get Torque Pro for Android ($4), an OBD2 Bluetooth adapter ($15), Android phone (?) and phone holder ($20)

That'll be the ducks nuts. Really looking forward to seeing all the data. So much data at your hands (said with a little envy of not having gone down that path myself). If my phone wasn't provided by work and I ran apple at home, it'd almost have been a sure thing.
