Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

will have a look at it again

Will consider a stage 1 tune a bit later, still getting used to the car

This is my first turbo car so I guess I got to get use to the lag, although it isn't that noticeable.

Will be getting opticoat this weekend.
The RCD510 doesnt have the clock feature. However, the clock on the RNS is useless anyway (due to the way it is implemented)

What is wrong with the clock on the MFD ?

Re lag, it is unlikely to be turbo lag but more the fly by wire throttle, the DSG and the general hesitation of the R at low speeds.

It just isn't super responsive. As has been said, a tune helps tremendously.

If you want to experience turbo lag, try an EVO or a GTR

    • Could always sell you my SprintBooster if you want to kill lag
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

              • Feel like a noob asking this, but is the soundakator real?

I got confused when reading the thread in the other forum where there was some comments that it was a joke.

                  Simplest way is

                  1. One of those stickon LCD clocks placed next to the vanity mirror
                  2. Tell the passenger to buy a watch

                  • As much as my wife loves our car (GTI), the lack of a clock on the RCD510 pissed her off to no end. I informed her that the only remedy is to upgrade to an RNS/ANS 510.

Now to tackle the lack of the outside temperature display...

                    • Once you convince her you need the RNS510 install the latest firmware and turn on radio text - some stations tell you the weather on the screen. 1 or 2 degrees off the MDI reading sometimes but no big deal.

                        Huh ?

                        The MY13 GTI doesn't have it ?

My old MKV did and the R has.

Did they seriously remove that ?

Edit - the RNS is even more of a slug to use than the RCD. Better off going with a better headunit

What the hell is a passenger there for in the first place. Isn't that what minivans are for

On the other hand, he clearly doesn't like talking with his passenger so might be time for separate vehicles ....

Yes exactly, IMO the clock and temperature should be visible to all passengers. At the very least, it keeps people from always wanting to know what the damn time is!
