      • I chose my words carefully, hence "inexpensive".

Back on topic, the advice I trust was to not go the catch can way.

If anyone is looking for serious advice, a few experienced and informed owners and mechanics have actually given good info on catch cans and their value in certain conditions plenty of times well before this page of banter

These other mysterious mechanics, well, yes.

Now that catch cans are all sorted

Has anyone fitted bigger exhaust tips to the stock exhaust and any issues with heat on the diffuser ?

Not truly essential or VW would have installed them but I have some freebies so ...

                Cheers Lucas

I saw an R a while back with some oversized tips and they had burned the plastic of the diffuser but they looked pretty big

                Just wondered

The ones ive bought are a 4inch diameter tip which then tapers down to 2.25inch to mate up to the stock exhaust pipe where it comes out of the muffler.

Most of the aftermaket catback exhausts have either 3.5 or 4inch tips (like Scorpion / Milltek etc) so these are very similar to those.

I got the idea from a few guys in the USA who have had them fitted to their R's for a while - no melting issues reported.

Unless the tips were physically touching the diffuser, then you shouldnt have any issues. The tips ive chosen have about 1cm-1.5cm clearance from the diffuser.

YES. Better than having tar splatter & stone chips up the side of the car.

                          • I've got rear ones only, they're ok. Just don't get ripped off by the dealer like I did. eBay has them for half price.

I'd appreciate the practical benefits, but the look just kills it completely for me. A mate has mudflaps on his GTI, and every time I see it I think it looks like an old man car.
