    • Picked mine up this week finally. Would recommend anyone ordering a VW on North of Brisbane to speak to George at Northstar. He is a VW Golf nut and really helpful. I posted a pic on the picture forum.

Possibly, but I doubt it would be worth the hassle getting the car up here to QLD.

For me it drops me out of the top tax bracket and saves me a fair amount in tax. The downside is that you have a minimum amount of kilometres to achieve from March to March each year (in my case 25001).

Don't forget that there is GST on your lease payments (hence the reason why you get the vehicle ex GST, the legislation was set up so the tax man didn't double dip).

Actually, numerous people from QLD have purchased from these guys. They can either ship the car up to you, or you can fly down, pick it up and drive it back. As for whether it is worth it, I guess that depends on the difference between the discount you can negotiate locally and the discount you can get from one of them. Based on what you consider a "good deal" to be, I think it would definitely be worth your while...

I would definitely suggest giving Phillip from Gerald Slaven a call - I am very happy with the deal he did for me.

What do you have to lose? Either you get a quote that is better than you have now even including transport to Qld, or you don't and you're no worse off!

              • I ordered a Golf GTI (CW, 3D, MT, MDI, 18" Detroit, Premium BT) last Wednesday. Still waiting for agent to revert which day I can receive my car in the month of August.

Can't wait to see fellow GTI Mk6 drivers on the road.

Have a think about it. Its what ?? $200 for a One way plane fare to Canberra from Brissie. Its about 1200 k's back, 2 tank full at say $70 x 2 , through in an over nighter , say $100 bit of food , so for less then $1000 dealing with Phillip at Slaven , might be worthwhile and lets face it, its a pretty good run in on the way back.

                      • Waiting was such sweet sorrow. I wanted a manual 3-door GTI with a sunroof, and most of the cars coming in to the country seem to be 5-dr DSGs.

But then, just when I thought it might be 4 or 5 months before I got a car, and I started to think that maybe I should go and buy something else, some helpful soul decided he didn't want the 3-dr he had ordered, but would rather have a 5-dr. How far away was the car? Why, it's right here in Adelaide sir!

So it ended up being only a couple of weeks before I received my shiny white GTI. And after 1 week in the saddle I am wrapped. No sunroof, but that's going in next week, and today the car is in having Fiscon BT installed by Mobiletek.

The lovely Carmelle at Solitaire has been great, as have my leasing company Maxxia. Love this car!

                        Enjoy!

mmm I have been through the costing exercise of getting a car in Sydney – prior to test driving the Golf I was well down the road of a 2005 911 Carerra S which was at a dealer in North Sydney. I was getting quotes of $500-$900 for transport to Brisbane (including insurance). Without full investigation, I’d say it’d be a similar price for the Golf, but insurance maybe cheaper as it’s about half the price of the Porsche.

Flying down is certainly an option, but factoring an entire wasted weekend driving on what is a crappy road, I’d have to be getting a substantial discount.

Added to this is the hassle getting the car registered in QLD once I get up here.

I’ll give these guys a call and see what I can do.

                          • Afternoon all...

I have only just joined the forum after reading for many days... On the 10.7.10, I ordered the following: -

Reflex Silver Mk6 Gti, 5d, DSG, Leather with Electric Drivers Seat, Sunroof, Sat Nav, Bluetooth, Full tint, 18" Detroit alloys (but being replaced by the dealer with 2009 spec R32 wheels)....

I can't wait for this, but have to until December

Well, there is a reason why many QLD and VIC and SA people, including several members here, have purchased from one of the Sydney or ACT dealers. Giving them a call won't hurt, and could really make your year

Btw, registering in QLD won't be a hassle. Several people here have done that in the past few months. The dealer just arranges a permit, you drive the car to QLD, go to Transport QLD and pay your stuff (lol... if you need more specific help, just ask and I'm sure one of the members who have done it this year can help you)

Welcome and congrats on the new car mate!

It's probably a bit late to mention this, but are you aware that there's one school of thought that says having a sunroof fitted aftermarket can be more trouble than it's worth? Only reason I mention it is that I considered this carefully on my last car, and ended up deciding not to have it done after inspecting a couple of cars that had sunroofs retrofitted, and speaking to a few owners who'd experienced leaks and squeaks.

Having said that - I reckon the sunroof is the single best option on my GTI. I drive everywhere with it open.
