Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Having driven the car a bit more after 24hours, I feel 1st gear is way too low, I reckon 2nd gear would be pretty close to my Subie (pre-slightly Subaru altered ratios after MY01 model) 1st gear. 1st gear gives no push as it is over before it begins, with the traction control then rev limiter kind of all happening at once... but 2nd gear hammers very nicely, just how it felt when I was doing the DSG foot to the floor traffic light starts on the test drive in the DSG R. I guess (much) closer & lower ratio 6 speed manual will take a bit of getting used to. I found today even at 60km/hr in 4th(!), the new baby has great push, I would have had to pull 3rd (or possibly 2nd if I was really wanting to wring its neck) on the Subaru to accelerate from 60ish.

The car is dead-set gorgeous though, so many nice features inside and out, and not that much pricier than a WRX (ok, $15K is not a massive difference for a $45K car hehe).... I hope I don't regret service & other Euro level charges . This is a big sea-change for me, having owned Datsuns (3xDatsun 1600), Nissan Pulsar SSS (good 1994 model) & the Subaru .

I was digging out all my Subaru papers in prep to privately sell it, my early services were less than $200 inc oil & filter from Subaru LOL.

      • Finally bought a VW!!

After much confusion about what to buy (Skoda Octavia RS, Renault Megane 250, GTD and GTI) and trade appraisals of my G6E Turbo I bought a new Golf GTI 5 Door DSG with 18's and Sunroof in Red.
I was unsure on red to be honest and wanted white but then saw a red one and it kinda suited it and it seems white ones are everywhere.
So in conclusion unsure somewhat on red but had the options I wanted it was in stock and got an awesome deal so very very happy.
Now just a nervous week of driving my trade in before I get it hahaha.

Well done mate. What made you go from heavyweight to hot hatch? Also, what was the deal?

            • Two reasons for the change.
              1. G6E Turbo is depreciating at a ridiculous rate and is plagued with quality issues.
              2. I work for a VW owned company and was kinda "told" my next car must be a VW, Audi or Skoda.
The deal was good in my opinion, I got over 13% discount so worked out after loading my trade I still came out with a $5,000 saving over retail.

                  • Finally after seven months and thirteen days I picked up my new toy on Friday. Faultless and pressure free presentation by McGraths Sutherland. Now all I have to do is learn to drive it properly as it is nothing like anything I've ever driven before. It is sooooo quick! Well worth the wait. Love it.

                          Carbonio intake and piping
New South pod mounted boost gauge
Stereo upgrade (not sure what yet)
                          Possibly an FMIC upgrade

Already loving this car in stock form so should be much fun in store
