  • Mine arrived in the country on the 19 April (according to Gold Coast VW).

Using my powers of deduction, this was on the Manon and it arrived in Melbourne around this time...

Surely it would be easier for this car to be dropped off in Brisbane (which is due at the Port of Brisbane today), as oppose to arriving in Melbourne, then trucking it all the way to sunny QLD???

Did u get a dealer swap? - That may be the reason it is being transported by road.

I can't understand how your R can take more than 3 weeks when mine took 8 days and had to be transported 460kms from Port Kembla.
WOW! Port Kembla are usually one of the slowest ports and compliance centres. This is unbelievable turn around!!
But just because you've set a new record for NSW, doesn't mean everyone else will get it that quick. Back in December, it took almost 4 weeks for my R to be delivered from the same port...

I believe so - excuse my ignorance, but why does a dealer swap mean it has to be transferred by road? Wouldn't the port guys just leave it there for it to be delivered in Brisbane? It is extra transportation costs this way.......

          • No, the car needs to be delivered to the dealer who ordered it. Thus if the original dealer was in NSW, the car gets off at Port Kembla, then gets transfered to QLD via road.

Just off the phone with my dealer who says they have been advised there is a 'go-slow' by employees at the Patricks dock. This is on top of the dock having been shut down for 5 days over the long weekend.

The good news I guess is that we can be lucky this is not a Subaru forum. Apparently the Webb Dock is the one which is in full strike mode, with no Japanese cars being let in. As the link by SilvrFoxX suggests, the car carriers are all having to drop anchor and wait.

                    • Picked up the new GTI yesterday and had to drive home in torrential rain. Feels different to my old GTI in that it seems more solid even in soft mode, short shifts earlier than the old one and the exhaust sounds more pleasant. Having only done 36ks it is way to soon to form an opinion but from first impressions I am going to love it. Now to figure out all the RNS 510 stuff..........

                      • aussieaviator - is yours a 2011 build car?

Assuming it is, your car arrived in Oz around the same time mine did - although my is still waiting to be cleared off the docks in Melbourne b4 going en route to Gold Coast

Ha! Yours must have also come off the Manon too as mine docked in Melbourne on the 20 April!!! What are the specs of yours (e.g. 3/5 door, DSG, etc)

You did well to get yours so soon given that we lost a few days with the long weekend! Mine is still stuck in a port in Melbourne from my last discussions with the dealer!

Hopefully it does not take much longer!

                              • Picked up my R.

                                Mixed experience...

I was told the swirls in the paint come standard at no extra cost and are not a delete-able option.

Fortunately the chip in the paintwork will be repaired so happier about that.

First drive the little engine symbol appeared and I now have to drive it in limp mode all weekend until the dealer can check it out first thing Monday.

Oh well... it still corners and goes quite well even limping!
