Finally confirmed from the dealership that I'm swapping my 6 month wait on a carbon steel 3 dr GTi for a (soon to be delivered from interstate) white 5 dr GTi with detroits, bluetooth & MDI.
Delivery date to be confirmed but hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

VW Springwood finally pulled their finger out and found me the white one interstate. I phoned Norris myself and they had a white 3 door out the front (I saw it as I went past the other day) but it had the factory default wheels. Good price though - $39k on the road. In the end the practicality of the 5 door won me over
Finance_Analyst - have you been tempted by the APR ECU upgrade? It seems to provide a lot of extra power for the money.

I see... good luck with that one! I found Highway to be a bunch of a-holes when I dealt with them - was told no test drives as their demo was grounded and were just rude to me - like I couldn't afford the car. Obviously you had a better experience - I even gave the Sales Manager a mouthful AFTER I purchased my car from the Gold Coast and he didn't seem to care less. Well they lost a sale with me....

Nonetheless, as long as you have the car - yours is identical to mine minus the MDI (which is a bit redundant for me as I use a Blackberry and I can stream music via the bluetooth anyway).... Lots of people have asked me to get the APR Stage 1 upgrade (c.$1,300) but not sure right now, given warranty concerns and all. A mate has it on his 2009 Audi S3 and reckons its the bees knees.
As I am an accountant, need to consider all these things around cost V benefit etc :p

yeah fair enough, Highway have been ok with me and the sales guy has been working pretty hard to find me a car. I've found a few around myself including one at the Capalaba dealership but it doesn't always seem to be possible to dealer swap some cars, not sure the reasons behind that.
Let me know if you decide on that APR upgrade

I suppose a dealer won't swap a car they know will sell. If you wanted a silver GTI or a 3Dr, I am sure there will be heaps of dealers throwing cars your way (or a 2010 build). A white 5dr DSG on the other hand, well that is one in demand - my dealer (whether he is BS me or not) said that white is the hardest to get and lots of dealers wanted it...

Plus sometimes dealers are owed favours - it seems that favours accure too in the car business......

Picked up my 2010 103TDI Golf Wagon in Platinum Grey last night.

Already ordered RVC, RNS510, underseat drawers and bluetooth module so I have a busy few weeks ahead of me.

Also want to retrofit OPC but worried it's too much work.

Anyway loving the car, fuel consumption is amazing (5l/100km city driving WTF), and taking it on a 1500km drive this weekend down to Albany WA and back.

Picked up wifes 118TSI DSG Golf Wagon yesterday, Black, corn silk leather interior, sat nav, sports pack, MDI....top looking combo.

And I pick up my new GTI on Wednesday 8th June, White 5 door manual, 18's.
Can't wait.

For readers yet to purchase who want some indication of the timing of ordering / receiving a GTI here is my experience:

This was slightly "ahead of schedule" as the estimate on day of order was "June"

The EOFY hype caught my attention ... so GTI shopping I went!

How hard is it to find a Carbon Steel in manual? Anyways, happy to say after resigning myself that I wont get a manual, I have ordered a DSG Carbon Steel GTI.

Best part it is a MY12 that was going into dealer stock. Add 18's and Bi-Xenons (which I didn't need, but gets me the car) and all being well it will be here in 8 to 10 weeks!

As I have said many times previously, this sale is a scam in a number of ways here in Brisbane. It is on 2010 build cars which will be delivered prior to 30 June. There are 2011 cars, so unless you ask, the dealers here won't release them. Australs have 6 or so 2010 build GTIs for $5k off but, really, do you want a 2010 car which has been sitting around for months in a colour you don't really want - especially as it will take a bath come resale time? I got a better deal via the Corporate Plus discount and the exact spec to boot. So this sale is not all that it seems in my "beancounter" opinion.....

Scam only if buyers are uninformed - caveat emptor always apply.

If it is old 2010 stock that has been sitting around for many months and in less desirable color/option combo, it is up to the buyer to negotiate the hell out of it - sales or no sales. Don't let the sales offer be the reference point.
