  • Finally took delivery of my GTI today. Excellent vehicle and was definitely worth the wait as so many on this forum have said.

No problems whatsoever and I will post some pics and a vid when the weather is better here in Sydney.

Big congrats! But oh oh on the china SatNav thingy - usually end up in tears. Definitely should go for original item sourced from ebay seller.

... is ruined by a cheap Chinese head unit! Stick with the RNS 510, it's available for ~$1000 and is far better then any of the cheap Chinese knockoff units.

Ahh sorry you got it wrong I am not replacing the head unit it is a module that gies inside the RCD510 to convert it to Navigation (so I can run IGO or simular). Btw I have a so called cheap Chinese radio in my current MK5 and on comparison I would rather that than the RNS ( I now is is modifilale to a point) But has no speed camera alerts.... POI's are also a pain to add..... the so called cheap radios are geeting better and better. Just look at this one Maisun technology(HK) Limited I would be happy to have that in my car ...even thinking of updating the current one to this....

            • Ewww...in that case, I would rather keep RCD510 as is and get a separate SatNav e.g. Tomtom or Garmin.

Cheap chinese DIN, from experience, are crap - there is a reason why they are cheap.

                • Just ordered the Golf 77TSI for the missus. She wanted Blue and the only one I could find was in the Gold Coast so I'm hopping on the Airtrain when I land in Brisbane airport next month, hopping off at the Gold Coast and meeting the dealer there!

Then driving back to Brisbane that evening. Fun!

Gives us a chance to run it in.

Paid 25889 for metallic paint and dealer fitted parking sensors.

Missus had wanted a smaller car like the Polo at first. But the driveaway deal on the Golfs are too good. Plus I figured once she gets used to the size, the R or GTI is an easier sell!

Ps I just thought it bore mentioning the 1.2T engine with is surprisingly torquey. Tested a Volvo C30 2.0 NA just before with their version of DSG and it was slow and sluggish in comparison.

                  • Nice one DoggieHowser. Who on the Coast did you deal with? I bought my GTI from them and found their service to be light years better than the stuck up pricks here in Brisbane.

Been dealing with Rob from James Frizelles VW.

Actually I thought Mark from Austral was OK too. Would have gotten it from him had he the car in the color my missus wanted. I will probably reach out to him once I move over for good for my own car.

                        • After 4 weeks of deliberation and endless discussions (read arguments) with the missus, I finally placed an order for a Mk6 Golf 118 TSI DSG. Bought it from Werribee VW (a bit of a commute for me, but they were the most helpful & friendly) for $38500 driveaway with these extras:
                          Vienna leather
                          Sunroof
                          MDI + iPod Cable
                          RCD510
                          Rear parking sensor
                          Floor mats
                          Full tank of fuel
                          10% off all servicing costs
                          1 year extended dealer warranty

Because the car I wanted was on a ship heading to Sydney, I got a dealer swap - got my onroads paid for & am expecting to pick up the car in Melbourne, well, Werribee, by the end of the month. Hopefully, I won't miss the 30th June deadline, though if there is a delay, I'm guessing the dealer will pick up the tab for the onroads if VW don't pay him.

                          Can't wait !

                          • Picked up my R today.
                            What a phenomenal machine!!!
Everything was perfect on it and had been detailed beautifully, not a swirl mark or grime particle to be seen or felt.
The Tech in the car is fantastic and am sure many hours will be spent studying the manual or will just get my 12 year old boy to tell me how it all works He was one of the main reasons I decided on the R....a big car fan.
The Recaros are the most comfortable, supportive seats I have been in but can imagine for someone who spends alot of time in and out it may get a little annoying.
Am a happy camper after 10 months of waiting.
Hope you all receive your dubs soon and you enjoy the first drive as much as I did......I am still grinning.
                            Cheers.

                            • Hey sman suck it up it doesn't get old..

The tech rocks, I spent an hour i the car configuring the RNS510 till it was set right for me and now it rocks. You have to memorise the voice commands. The MDI is a tad fiddley but once you get the hang on it you will enjoy.

You need to take it for a run at night out of the city, the rear vision antiglare is perfect and the ambient glow from the roof console over the centre console is a nice touch

anyway I won't rob you of all the kewl stuff but enjoy

I found that perfect as well. I have never had a car with it and was not sure what I was getting. It seems it dims and brightens in graduations so the headlights are dimmed but you can see the car behind you. I thought it would be just on and off.
