    I don't like Lexus. I want a quieter GTI.

      • I just sold an XR5 after about 4 months ownership, got a MK6 GTI and found tyre noise from the Bridgestones to be quite pronounced. Needless to say they wont be on the car very long.

No offense but in terms of road noise it's like going from Mercedes to Hyundai. I know the Focus is an incredibly quiet car ( even quieter than a new BMW 125i that I test drove recently) but I did expect the GTI would be at least as good if not better. Could the 18 inch low profile tyres explain this difference in noise levels or is it simply that Golf is noisier than Focus?
Generally speaking, all vehicles fitted with wide, low-profile tyres that are driven on Australian road surfaces tends to negatively affect the vehicle's NVH suppression characteristics, and the effect tends to be more pronounced in vehicles which are not developed here.

It's the price one pays for the tyre's roadholding capabilities.

Yes, but the utterly intoxicating V10 soundtrack more than compensates!

                • They look good - i like it. Good to see VW have finally gone away from the circle spokes which i never liked.

The circle spokes looked too much like the weird obsession Alfa had with putting circles in the wheel designs from the 2000's.

                    • I recently fitted the same wheels to my CSG 3 door. Did you get them from Advance in Richmond?

                        • Gee $760 is good. I did a deal for $800 when they were $890 on ebay, not too bad. Found an awesome tyre too, Hankook Ventus Evo S1. $205 fitted per corner and brilliant wet/dry traction.

I really can't pick these wheels from the genuine VW originals. So much easier to clean than my old spokey ones which I'm about to put up for sale.

                          • well it was $760 without tyres from a mate so yeah.

but yeah i had the detroit wheels, the bubble/alfa looking wheels. HATE them lol

will be putting them up for sale too. genuine 18s if anyone is interested!?!

                            • I do like the new GTI wheels and while rep's usually come with a trade off in quality and weight the price is definitely much nicer than the OEM ones.

I'm still on the hunt for wheels for my Cab, just can't find anything I really like.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
