Does anyone know what the difference/advantages are of the Bridgestone Potenza MY01 Vs RE030 is?

The RE030's are $60 more expensive and have a slightly higher speed rating, but that's all I can determine.

The tyres my Golf came with are terrible in the wet, so it's time for some new ones.

The original 205/55 R16 tyres fitted on any Mk6 Golf will have a load index of 91.

The Bridgestone Potenza RE030 in fitment 205/55 R16 have a load index of 89 (which is uncommon). In addition, this particular tyre was an OE fitment on the 2nd generation Lexus IS250, which indicates that its design is getting on a bit.

The Bridgestone Sports Tourer MY-01 is part of their value-orientated range of performance passenger tyres (it's not part of the Potenza range).

Difficult to say which is better of the two.

I actually think the Yokohama C.drive2 would be a better alternative than either Bridgestone, if wet performance is a priority.

Ended up getting the RE030's put on and tested them out on the AuSkoda cruise to Bathurst yesterday.

They gripped really well, especially when putting the car through its paces on some of the sharp curves out near Oberon. Definitely worth the money.

Now, to address that body roll.

Need advise on a new set of 17" tyres. Im still on the stock Bridgestone Potenza's after 55,000kms.

Recommendation for general all-condition tyres?
I would lean towards comfort rather than grip (but of course, not compromising safety).

I went to Michelin PS3 and have been very happy with ride, noise and grip. They are certainly quieter than the Bridgestones.

Thinking Primacy for longevity and comfort.

I have Primacy. They certainly last (75,000km now) but if I was doing it again I'd get PS3

GTI road noise

I am wondering if there is anyone who has driven both a GTI and Ford Focus. I have recently bought a 2012 GTI DSG at 22000 km and also have a 2012 Focus sport dual clutch. No offense but in terms of road noise it's like going from Mercedes to Hyundai. I know the Focus is an incredibly quiet car ( even quieter than a new BMW 125i that I test drove recently) but I did expect the GTI would be at least as good if not better. Could the 18 inch low profile tyres explain this difference in noise levels or is it simply that Golf is noisier than Focus?

I assume you have the mk6 Golf. All I know is that when I test drove a new base model Focus and the new base model Golf before purchase 7 months ago the Golf killed the Focus for noise suppression, especially road noise. Actually there was not one positive about the Focus compared with the Golf. I have driven the mk6 GTI and while it wasn't as quiet as my new one I would never have complained about road noise. Maybe it's the tyres?

thanks guys. I haven't even heard of the tyres mentioned above. I really hope that the problem is the tyres because I love this car, the acceleration, handling, steering feel. I will take it to a tyre place for an inspection of and opinion about the tyres first.

i am betting the GTI has a Soundakator andf the Focus doesn't.. if you drive and XR5 you will find it has one

The soundaktor produces an exaggerated engine sound with a lot of coarse vibrations in the cabin which is the stupidest thing to me. I unplugged it on the first day I bought the car and the difference was like day and night.
