Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I was actually thinking of trying something else - would it be ok for me to put a different tyre on and then wait a few months for the fronts to need replacing ? (fronts still have a few months to go i reckon)

Also any Melbourne tyre shop recommendations? would prefer central / inner west

      Thanks in advance

That will work fine. Consider taking advantage of any 4 for 3 offers and getting 2 fitted now & 2 fitted later. Many tyre shops are happy to do this

      • Got some Continental SC5 for my Mk6 GTi yesterday (225/45/17). Had a closer look after I got home, and realised that 3 of the tyres had a load rating of 91, the 4th one was 94 XL.

I assume the 94XL is a bit stiffer and heavier than the 91. Any thoughts on whether I should take the car back and ask the shop to replace the 94 XL with a 91?

Or is the difference so minimal I won't even notice the difference?

        • Get it changed. It will be stiffer in the sidewall as it probably has more plies. The tyre place won't mind.

          • I got some Michelin Pilot Sport 3's fitted to my golf late last year. I was just washing the car and noticed all of them have 'inside' printed on the outside. Are they mounted the wrong way around? If so do I need to worry about it?

            • Yes they are the wrong way.

It's not a great idea to have them that way. Go back & they will swap them for you

                • I rang the service centre, they apologised and said they'd fix it as soon as I could get to them. Dropped in this afternoon, all done in 45mins.

                            • Tyre Recommendations - 225/40R18

I'm on the hunt for some new rubber, the PS3's on the 17" rims have been fine, but I haven't bought tires in forever...

So I'm looking at these at the moment:

                              Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003
                              Toyo Proxes 4
                              Michelan Pilot Sport 3
                              Pirelli P Zero
                              Continental ContiSport Contact 5

I can get the Conti's and the Toyo's on 4 for 3 deals that I've seen, who knows for the others.

So what's good? Anyone seen any deals about in Melbourne?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
