Off the top of my head, you will need from top to bottom of the light fixtures:

Yellow 12V 21W turn signal bulbs, 2 of
Clear 12V 21W turn signal bulbs, 2 of (for the reversing lights)
Red 12V 21/5W brake and tail light (BAY15D), 2 of
Red 12V 5W Tail light, 2 of (additional tail light)

i don't have a vagcom yet and was wondering which i should get?

Few things i need to do with it, check the freaking ABS light and to clear my Airbag light after swapping in my old clock spring from the old torn steering wheel.

Suggestions?

hasnt let me down yet, can check all codes (enginer, abs, srs, airbag etc) and clear them (airbag light).

Has anyone done a window motor swap before? Found the regulator sans motor but my motor is good so would just need to swap.

Yep as HaydEn said it's just a few torx screws.

I did the same for one of my rear doors, got the regulator off ebay and swapped in my motor.

just compare them and you will see some holes with missing screws on the new reg, so just find those on the old and take them out which are the ones holding the motor in.

Also, loosen and lube up the rubber lined clamp which secures the glass because mine was annoying to remove as the old rubber was completely gripping the glass.

Liberal amounts of WD40 and jiggle the clamp and glass worked it free.

Apply WD40 or silicon spray etc onto the new clamp and rubber to assist the glass to back in, but don't completely tighten until you test the power window again and bring the whole window up and down a few times to make sure it settles in the clamp then tighten.

You can also try and clean up any gunk that has collected in the bottom edge of the door cavity.

My 97 CL has one behind the blanking plate just above the cigarette lighter and next to the ashtray. I assume the 96 Vento has one in the same spot too. However the early Mk3 did not have an OBD2 port.

You need a 409.1 KKL compatible scanner, this is what I use.

No problems with the red brake/tail light and the red tail light just take a bit of care with installation, they sit side by side in the fixture and look very similar but the brake/tail light (BAY15D) has an offset bayonet (the two lugs are offset). Do not force it or you will either break the bulb or the fixture.

LOL... that explains why i've shattered a bulb (or two) and they weren't fitting correctly... i just went to supercheap and got red and amber globes.

2 Wins and 1 Fail in the past 2 days:

WIN 1 - Clockspring from my old steering wheel fixed my airbag light issue (good thing i didn't throw this ripped up piece of crap away)
WIN 2 - Scored set of 4 Hankook H457 Ventus 2 Concept 2 205/50/15 tires and an alignment at Jax Artarmon for $500 and it falls under the new Hankook promo where i score a $100 gift card so $400 for 4 tires and an alignment is pretty solid especially for this rare sizing!

Still need to get a OBD1 vagcom though to find out what's wrong with my ABS without having to randomly replace sensors...

I literally bought a new window reg last week. Someone was selling a leftover for $50 (inc. post). Otherwise check out audi-veedub VW Golf MK3 VW Vento LHR Window Regulator NEW | eBay .
My rear right played up last week and haven't been game enough to open it again until I fix at least the other one. Then I will move on, diagnosing and seeing what's up with the rear right.

I hear you about the VAGCOM to diagnose and clear the ABS fault code on the Vento and figure out what needs fixing. Although in my case it will be an OBDII.
