Ok, so things have been moving slowly as it’s a time consuming part of what I’m trying to do and achieve. How ever, I am quite happy with what is going on and what I’m busy doing, as it’s all part of a bigger vision.
As below with pictures, the headlights adjusting screws are in their proper place, and busy working on where to have one permanent fixture for each light so the adjusting screws can do what they need to. Will also be trying to source some springs to add to the adjusting screws to make sure there is some sort of tension making sure the screws don’t adjust on their own.
As for the radiator, I have now drilled and got the position of the radiator where it needs to be. Was lucky enough to find some sort of rubber grommets that fit perfectly(pictures to come)
And also marked where I need to reduce the air guides size but also bend a piece on each that will help as anchor points to make sure they stay in place and don’t hurt the radiator.
On top of that, I have a mate that works at a parts shop who is helping me try and match all the coolant hoses with others from different cars.
Below are just some pictures of what has been going on.

Yesterday I had some time to add a few things and slightly modify the headlight brackets. And I can now say, they are 99% done and ready for wiring.
Still working on the air guides for the radiator, but I also have the radiator in place now and am able to further make small changes to the air guides so they don’t touch the radiator but also become fixed like the originals.

Managed to spend a couple of hours on the old girl today.
I made top mount brackets for the radiator, which keeps it nice and steady and away from the air guides and body.
I also managed to make some mounting tabs for the fan shroud to be able to use it and it sits perfectly in its original spot.
Please don’t judge home made brackets as this is all just temporary stuff.
But I do hope you enjoy what I am doing and have done so far.

As much as I like the LED headlights I can't help but think that they take away the charm (old school look) of a MK1. I am however tempted to get some for my MK3 which I daily between Braidwood and Canberra.
Can't have enough candle power for roo spotting on the Kings Highway.
Cheers

PS. Let me know when you want the bumpers for rego. Looks like you only need the ends for the front one, what about the rear?1978 MK1 2.0 16v http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...-46488-70.html

As for bumpers, yeah, I’m sure end caps for front is good and rear is whole bumper.
But I’ll let you know.
Thanks for the help.

Finally I believe I have everything I need coolant hoses wise. It took a week and a half with test fitting, and keep matching hoses to finally get to what I have.
I have to thank my mate at my local parts shop who helped me in doing so. It’s great having these relationships vut also have a relationship outside of that which is even more important.
As follows are the hoses I have which will work perfectly for my vehicle. Keep in mind, a little bit of extra research for other engines or vehicles will be needed but I do hope this helps as a guideline to be able to source things locally.
I got all my hoses at Bursons Auto Parts but I’m sure places like Repco and Supercheap might be able to provide the same(or at what ever parts shop you buy at)
MACKAY 8mm Heater Hose for over flow from expansion tank to radiator,
Dayco 19mm Heater Hose from bottom of the head splitter to the top of the water pump at the back,
Dayco 17mm Heater Hose from bottom of expansion tank to metal part of heater line and also for the small bit between water pump and heater line,
Dayco DMH5653 is the bottom radiator hose(which will need to be cut back a smidge to fit nicely),
Dayco DMH3723 is the top radiator hose and fits snug without any trimming etc.

I have two weeks off now from work. So hoping during these two weeks I can get the coolant plumbing done and maybe even sort out a few extra stuff to have her ready for when I go back to work, to organise rego inspection.
I’m also having time to spend on the cleaning things up side of the car. I started with the must clean up side of things which is engine and gearbox as I believe there are a couple if small oil leaks(very small) but if all that is clean when she goes over the pits, she might pass inspection a bit easier.

Again tried to clean up as best I can where ever I can. Using fuel for a start to clean, and then have some really strong degreaser after.
I have also started fabrication on my new expansion tank bracket. But when I fabricate at home it’s all done outside and rain has stopped progress but I should be able to have it done by tomorrow and start the old girl up.
And to top off my afternoon once the rain started, my mother in law came home from the shops and got me a little something she saw at the shops.
