  • Thanks Tim, and yeah, Newcastle is a bit far from you for a Sunday drive...
Yes there is a little bit of paper, and it describes the connection of the filter - as I (badly) described and you confirmed. The bit with no instruction of any sort is the short lead that plugs into the camera's second (power?) lead and has a red and black wire... I am assuming that the RED wire goes to the filtered power (ie same wire that runs forward to head unit from filter) and the black WIRE goes to earth. Can you confirm?

    • Neil, thanks - I have just sent Rob a email asking him to confirm availability.
Did you carry out the install ? or did you use someone ?

      • I'm going to have a go this weekend...
Ordered the diversity antenna adaptor from AdvancedICE today, $40 incl shipping. Should have it tomorrow. It is reported to solve the issue of poor AM radio coverage when only connecting one of the VW antennas to the AVC9000.

        • OK, well that wasn't so bad...
          AVC9000 installed and working!
One false start - it had a blown main fuse when first powered up. This worried me a bit, but I examined the fuse and decided it was "broken" not blown - ie the inside was snapped in two rather than overheated. Replaced it with a 5A (original was 10) just to make sure, then powered back up and all OK.
AM radio is hopeless, and that is WITH the active antenna adaptor thinggy, I think someone had success swapping the two fakra connectors on it. Will try that in the morning.

Bluetooth is clunky but works - on a Motorola phone - and GPS is IGO8. Maps sensis 2007 I think reading the data.
Haven't tried the ipod yet or video or CD. Will run the reversing camera stuff tomorrow as well!

          • A couple of post-installation questions for those who've been there and done that.....
            1. What is the definitive way to get best AM + FM reception? I currently have the supplied adaptor plugged into the WHITE aerial lead (only way for AM).
            2. Has anyone got repeatable bluetooth?
I have got to delete the non-functioning pairing and re-pair every time we use the car. I should be able to expect an automatic connection with the paired phone every time I get in the car, right? Certainly that is what happens with the "other" phone and the "other car"...

            cheers,

            ..Neil

            • I scored the Fakra leads.....only way to fix your radio issues.

As for the B'tooth, check the settings on your phone. You should be able to have the phone pair with the AVC as soon as the phone comes withing distance (3 - 5 meters) of the unit.

              • I agree with Steve. You need an adapter that allows both antenna leads to be used.
As for Bluetooth. I have no trouble with the pairing staying between reboots. Might be more of a phone problem, than the AVIC.
Mind you, the AVIC is pretty crappy bluetooth wise. Sure it connetcs and works, but with the mic being on the lefthand side of the unit, and it appears to be voice activated, I find people on the other end of the line have difficulty in hearing you. For some, they will find that OK. I just have greater expectations. But Hey!. The unit overall, is value for money.

                • Does someone have a direct link to a supplier of the Fakra leads?

My radio is poor between towns (actually no worse than my other car, but was perfect before).

As stated above, bluetooth not perfect but liveable.

My next mission is to fiddle with the flash card to see what else the unit can do.

                  • If you read back through this thread, you will see a couple of alternative adapters that would work.
                    One is from http://www.advancedice.com.au/produc...?number=970769
Another is from one of the well known radio accessory suppliers. (Cant recall name offhand)

                    • My 2.2cents for the Bluetooth solution is to drop $100 (or less now) on Ebay and grab one of the Blueant Supertooth unit (get the black ones, not the silver or white ones, they seem to suck) because they are by far and away the best bluetooth units for duplex voice quality.

sure, it is an extra thing rather than having the AVC do it all, but tbh the bluetooth on the AVC sucks the left one badly and if you are going to speak to someone you may as well do it properly. Nothing worse than having to repeat yourself 5 times cause the mic won't pick up what you're saying, just gets annoying.

                      • I emailed Auspack and it seems they still sell the AVC9000

Is there anyone in Perth who can let me look at their AVC9000 in action? I live in Winthrop (south of river) but work in the CBD.

                            • I just noticed that the AVC 9000 only has one AV input.

I have a DTV twin tuner that I would like to connect. However, it seems you cant connect both this and the reverse camera at the same time.

Does anyone know if you could plug in one of those RCA Y splitters so you could plug 2 x AV inputs into the single AV input connection? The reverse camera would only come on when you are reversing and during the other times, you would use the DTV tuner.

                              Thoughts?
