  • Anyone know if you can stop the AVC from starting to load USB/CD and then connecting the Bluetooth (which drops the USB connection), then finally connecting USB again after Bluetooth is done.

Why can't it just do Bluetooth first and THEN USB/CD/DVD

    • Sorry Polar, can't help...
Mine doesn't connect to bluetooth except when I specifically re-pair it with the phone. So I don't have your problem... Wish I did...
BUT - on the few cases when it has appeared to pair with the phone that was programmed last time (maybe after 1 hour of being shut down), I have seen nothing like you are saying (ie bluetooth appears to connect in the background as you would think it should). So I am a little confused.

      That brings up another question:
What section of the AVC9000 system do you use to set up the bluetooth?
Stupid question, but there seem to be TWO bits of bluetooth connection software.
One is under "SRC" where you select the BLUE source and go through the motions, this allows dialling via the dial pad, as well as call and answer functions.
The other is the rather stylised-looking bluetooth logo that is in the underlying menus for the NAV. ie you select NAV and then EXIT from whatever NAV programme you are using after waiting for it to load, then you can see the bluetooth logo as one of the big icons on the screen (far right without selecting right arrow IIRC).
Does anyone know which is the go for this?
Maybe someone who has had reasonable success with the set-up and use of AVC9000 bluetooth can jot down a step-by-step for how to make it all happy??

      cheers,

      ..Neil

      • The answer you seek is = bluetooth via the source page.

Programming bluetooth in the various nav software does nothing.

Having said that, I also heard that Apple were working on a adapter plug to carry a charge for the newer devices, but if the AVC is not feeding a charge, this won't help.
I guess, what you would then require is a sort of double adapter on the IPOD that takes 2 inputs. 1. from the audio feed, which you currently have, and 2. another from the usb port, to carry a charge. I don't know if such a device exists.
so has anyone seen this problem - or even better found a solution?

            • looks interesting but its not clear as to whether you can run the GPS and music at the same time like the Auspack one can.

The interface is a bit better though. I bought the Auspack one and am waiting on delivery. Its cheaper and includes a reverse camera.

              • Wrote to the guy selling these and he informs me that music can be played while GPS is in use. Was also very forthcoming regarding the issue of the Bluetooth mic and suggested an external mic could be soldered in (although where to get the external mic is beyond me!)

                • It wouldn't be too hard to replace the mic with an external one. However, it would involve the opening of the unit, and therefore blowing warranty. Mind you, if bought on ebay, and from USA, you may consider your warranty useless anyway. The best way to do it is to
                  # open the unit, disconnect the existing mic,
                  # add a new mic plug to the back of the unit (female)
                  # Run the wires from the old mic to the new plug.
                  # grab any old mobile phone mic set and plug into the new socket.
Any decent radio repairer could easily do it for you. Then all you need to do is locate your new mic.

                  • I have an Auspack unitin my Jetta, recently purchased an 08 olf GTI and the Auspack ones have increased dramatically from 3 months ago. From less that $785 delivered to over $950 now !! I know as I enquired when I was thinking about getting the GTI.

The ones off of Ebay look good, nice looking interface and I do like the option of seperate SD cards for Nav and media. With it being so close the Xmas now i'm going to wait until the new year, will get one off Ebay as I feel the AVC9000 is a little dated. This other one looks refreshing.

Just my opinion is all I do like the 6 stack in dash unit tho, works a sharm for MP3 playback Decisions decisions...

                      • I just received my AVC9000 from Auspack but havent installed it yet.

I have taken the SD card out to see whats on it and LOL'd when I saw a "crack" folder for TomTom

I cant seem to see any iGo files so I don't think its loaded on mine. Sorry but I cant help those who wanted the iGo files.

                        • Hi every one and compliments of the season to all...
Wondering if there is any wisdom out there that can assist. Have had the AVC9000 installed in the Golf for a month or so, and apart from the apppalling AM reception (and non-functional active twin antenna adaptor from advanced ice who no longer allow the general public to call their phone and don't answer e-mails), we have now got a serious gremlin in the satnav. On MOST but not all days, it says it can't see the GPS device, no matter whether I run IGO8, TomTom, or whatever software, or just go and look in the generic set-up bits.
Has this happenned to anyone else??

Oh, and there seems NO WAY to make the bluetooth remember any phone from one day to the next.

Apart from that, it's all fine!

                          cheers,

                          • I just don't understand why anyone even wants to even try the Bluetooth let alone spend any time trying to tweek it or make it work with phones, etc. It is HORRIBLE, has extremely low sound quality, and is more frustrating than anything to engage with so why bother?

I've had tonnes of BT units and the only one that works with proper duplex and great quality is either the Blueant units (the square ones, not those hopeless grey round ones) or have heard the Parrot units as well.

As for the GPS with no uplink, I'd suggest remounting the antenna. I still have mind under the top centre grill and whilst it is interfered with on the odd occassion and I do get dropouts, i still get more than 95% connectivity and haven't gotten lost yet.

                            Oh, and ho ho ho

                            • Hey Dyl, thanks for the reply.
I really only want to have a functional BT to talk to the wife when she is driving. She (quite properly) won't answer her phone when driving, and more often than not all I want to do is to get her attention about something maybe give her a message or ask a quick question. She would never consider that she might need a "proper" BT kit, so all this has to do is to function as it does, plus remember the phone that has been configured to it.

As for the satnav, it is NOT a "loss of satellite" message, it is more like "WIN CE cannot find GPS device". My Antenna is on TOP of the dash, forward of the vent grille, and when it decides to see the device, it always sees lots of satelites and they are quite strong. So, don't know what to do there!

                              cheers,

                              • Has anyone installed the reverse camera on a Jetta? I want to avoid drilling a hole and was wonder if there is anyway to mount a camera without a hole.

I have looked at the rear license plate lights but these dont actually have a hole behind them so I cant use those spots to feed wires through.
