  • Oh ... have a lot of questions to answer.

Can you please help me with these:

    1. Do I need to disconnect the battery? Does it affect on anything else in the car?

    2. As I understand I don't need to connect P-CONT if I don't have the external amp?

    3. I have 2 pack of screws. What are they for? I think I don't need them, right?

    Thanks

      1. Although you may not make a mistake, it is prudent to disconnet the battery when working on electricals.

      2. I do not understand P-CONT. Basically you need to disconnect the CANBUS plug from the old radio, and connect it to the new adapter.

      3. I never used mine.

        • P-Cont = Power continous and is for running an external amp. No amp no use

            Hi guys,

i am currently having the AVC9000 installed into my GTI and the auto electrician has called me with 2 problems.

            1. there does not appear to be any sat nav software installed (Route ot Tomtom). Is this on an SD card or does it come pre-installed?

            2. The steering wheel buttons dont work even though he has connected it. has he connected the right way?

Any help would really be appreciated

            • The SD card should already be in its slot up the top behind the rubber flap thingy.
Steering controls are connected via the small black wire and plug.
              Good luck withy it mate,

do you know what the black plug should be pluged into for steering controls?

                • AFAIK,
The black plug (the one which comes out from the small black box) should be connected to the jack comming from the unit as one of the wires according to the installation instruction.

                  • The steering wheel controls ONLY work with the ignition on.

                    • dkan is correct. It seems strange, but the black lead (looks like a stereo plug) plugs into the REM lead from the radio. Apparently it pumps power into another section of the Units motherboard. Why they didnt just wire it in permanently is probably to cater for other makes of car.

                      • As far as satnav goes... if it is not starting up automatically when u press NAV. then go into the NAV software screen and scroll right till u get to the setting that lets you pick where the NAV program file is. Then select the folder on the SD card that has the software and the EXE file ... so something like SD/TOMTOM/TOMTOM.exe and click that.

Once that is selected tick Automaticallly start box. or something like taht.

Basically just look through the settings under the nav button until you find it.

                          Hi Guys,

Does anyone know of a good installer in Sydney?

i have just had the avc9000 and am having a few issues with a hissing/crackling sound when the volume is turned right down. any ideas how to fix this?

                          thanks

                          • All I could suggest is that you reseat the CAN-BUS plug and the aerial connections.
Did you only use one of the aerial leads?
If you did, you may try to connect both. AERPRO do a Y connector. So if you purchased that and another Fakra to DIN adapter, you would get both aerials connected. That may improve your reception.

                            • Thanks guys. its all installed now and running well except for the hissing sound . The sound can be heard on every source only when the volume is low?

The installer is saying its because of the unit not the installation. Should i be turning DBASS or EQUA off to get rid of the hissing?

                              Cheers

                              • I am very keen for one of these AVC9000 units (assuming I can somehow track one down )

What I want to know is if I could be able to install it in a 2002 VW Polo. From what I've seen Polos are quite similar to Golfs and it has a double DIN, just not sure if there would be something else that would cause it to not work?

You can get generic double DIN devices so I don't see what would be so specific as to not work. I do not have steering wheel controls, but I assume that is an optional control anyway so not needed.

This is a picture of my dash:
