New Octavia ....when? How Much?

Yeah I saw lots of cars trashed (had to go pick the missus up as the trains were broken down - trees on power lines or some crap). There were branches and leaves all over the road.

I apologise to any of the cars I passed (on motorbike, missus on back). I did quite a lot of filtering so we could get back to her car, and get our kids from childcare before it closed (and it becomes $1 per min per kid). All low speed and traffic was cactus, but I squeezed through some pretty tight gaps that normally I dont bother with.

I think seeing the carnage I knew my car is going to be damaged. What I dont want is it damaged and they repair it before giving it to me. I'd prefer them to write it off and offer me something else, rather than repair it.

I'll wait to see what happens. I can afford a 328i wagon, but just cause you can afford it doesn't mean I should do it. The Skoda is great value for money. I want this car, but I'm not bending over and taking a repaired car as "new". It's either new as it rolled out of the factory or its secondhand. If they repaired it and knocked 5k off, I'd probably buy it. But I can't see that happening.

Been looking on car sales, but there is literally nothing comparable.

I have owned a few Koreans of different types from new and each time I was satisfied by the test drive and then during ownership certain aspects just got on my nerves and then relief when sold. I am a slow learner and I was seduced by the extended warranty
Skoda put the fun element back in that I did not realise I missed so much.
I rented a couple of low mileage I30's (previous model) and while functional could not believe how mundane they were compared to the reviews. Each new model is claimed (and lauded by reviewers) to be massively improved for ride/handling/steering on the previous
model and then a couple of years later the same reviewers are of the same (much lower) opinion that I initially had.
Not saying I would never buy another one, but probably only after they have pirated most of VW's suspension specialists.
No I'll stick to my Octavias for now thanks.

Well said Gerry. A good honest review by a recent user and owner of Hyundai cars. Yes they can attract you to them, with a short test drive and then the ownership experience sours, then the divorce! How many times do motoring journos sing the praises of the winning cars, then surprise, surprise the cars fail to impress in real world use. Exception is the Golf and Octavia of course!

That's my struggle too. The only interesting alternatives for me are twice the price.

My boat docks 5 January. Car a couple of weeks later in a different state to where I bought it as we have moved in the eight months it took to arrive.

Drove past a new skoda parked on the side of the road at spring hill tonight. It was totally trashed. Windows completely smashed and golf ball dimples over every panel. Almost cried for the driver who was going to return to that tonight.

My wife was driving in the city right when the hailstorm hit. Luckily she was driving the more solid body merc, there were some seriously large hails that fell onto the car, managed to inflict a large size dent on some solid body parts (between the b and c pillar) among other dents throughout the car . I'm pretty sure it would be a different story if the Skoda was out in the open...

GTR....you're worst nightmare for your new car has just occurred. Brisbane City just got smashed by a decent hail storm. I do hope by some freak occurence that this storm missed your new car, wherever it is waiting?

A lady at work is due to pick her Occy up from Prestige this afternoon and she just got the call that their cars are kept in a warehouse so are all fine, hopefully the BB cars were similarly treated.

Well that's some good news for you GTR. Will be interested in hearing what they tell you next! I'm in a similar situation. Bought a golf through Bryan Byrt VW Capalaba and VW Australia won't tell me if car is safe from the hail yesterday. My car arrived a week or two ago in Brisbane and was due for pickup by myself this week. Real tough situation. I'm getting no answers from anyone!

Well Skoda told me all VAG cars are kept in Patrick's holding yard. Paddocks holding yard is all covered. So your vw should be safe!
