I30 / Hyundai aren't bad cars. I'd buy them over a lot of "Japanese" offerings & probably for the bulk of people that need A-B transport they are better than something from VWA Group.

Depends on the model. I gave my mates 77tsi Polo GTI weighting in the steering but couldn't do anything with my '07 Octy.

Gerrycan: The 40psi would have been a stuff-up / laziness / badly calibrated air gauge. No PD person would employ logic like you proposed.

      • I30 is really the closest offering to the Octavia in price, despite the i40 being the actual competitor. I30 manual diesel wagon is crazy cheap to run, drives well and is nice inside. Not as many gadgets available, and it's smaller inside, along with only base model being available in manual turned me away. Petrols uninspiring.

I have frequently had over-inflated tyres on delivery of new cars or when new tyres have been fitted from lots of different places and types of cars. That is why I assumed it was a standard thing and the only reasons I could think of.
Before you ask I am confident my tyre gauges are acceptably accurate.

I have owned a few Koreans of different types from new and each time I was satisfied by the test drive and then during ownership certain aspects just got on my nerves and then relief when sold. I am a slow learner and I was seduced by the extended warranty
Skoda put the fun element back in that I did not realise I missed so much.
I rented a couple of low mileage I30's (previous model) and while functional could not believe how mundane they were compared to the reviews. Each new model is claimed (and lauded by reviewers) to be massively improved for ride/handling/steering on the previous
model and then a couple of years later the same reviewers are of the same (much lower) opinion that I initially had.
Not saying I would never buy another one, but probably only after they have pirated most of VW's suspension specialists.
No I'll stick to my Octavias for now thanks.

            • Agree it's a more boring drive. Engines aren't very good in comparison too. It's like a Korean corolla.

Switch great is where I notice it the most. The blinker switches on euro cars feel fantastic, nice click, good weight and feel solid. Korean and Japanese cars don't have that down pay yet. They are also catching up with soft touch plastics, which make the car feel more prestige.

Euros typically are very understated and plain inside. Functional. Korean/jap cars seem to go for lots of buttons and shiny plastic to look 'bling'.

Mazda are the best interiors for Japanese (at this price level) but still a step below vw group

Not your gauge, the gauge in the PD department (if they even have one).

I was the PD department for a small Toyota dealership for 6months - mainly because I was sick of doing service work, I could fit AC systems really fast and they let me do unlimited overtime so I could get a deposit together for a house. My ability as a PD person was fairly poor & the workshop kept borrowing my tyre pressure gauge. It was also expected that you'd cut a few corners if you had too many PDs to complete. Basically, they were happy to have the cars delivered to the new owners with some minor issues & let the service department sort it out at the 1500km service.

That was 1988 so I'm sure the current PD people are all out of work Rocket Scientists & given as much time & resources as required.

I referred to my tyre gauges accuracy since that could have been the common factor for me thinking my tyres were over-inflated from various sources. Including both my Octavias over 6 years apart.

You may be right about the rocket scientists but I am getting pretty desperate about finding a job at the moment myself.
Not even a sniff of a response to any of my applications.

                  • It's a crap time of year for jobs. Maybe look in logistics for pleb work, as typically they are always really busy this time of year. (Try Coles, woolies, toll etc warehouses)

Might mean you are doing some menial task, but Coles and woolies especially pay good rates to pick boxes. $30+ an hour for a casual.

                        • I know. I was pleading with them to get the ****ing car, because the weather forcast has said thunderstorms for weeks. I knew at some stage one with hail would get us.

Hoping my car is unaffected. What can you do. It's like i've constantly been getting ****ed over. If the car is written off and I cant collect something equivalent (manual, pano roof, tech pack) or like a manual RS wagon with pano roof immediately, then I'll go get something else. Don't know what - will probably mean I need to spend more money. Might get a BMW wagon instead, because everything else in this bracket is ****ing auto and im not buying a auto (unless its a 4wd).

If the worst happens, I have a LOT of skoda products to sell. Like. Lots. Still waiting for my rear guard to turn up - that wont be here before jan I suspect (PS dont buy off that sherwood automotive. ****ing useless is being nice).

                              • Drove past a new skoda parked on the side of the road at spring hill tonight. It was totally trashed. Windows completely smashed and golf ball dimples over every panel. Almost cried for the driver who was going to return to that tonight.
