Those look like good prices for the Opti-Coat Pro paint protection. In WA there are only two authorised dealers and they respectively quote for machine application (two layers) for a medium (hatch back, sedan, regular sports) or large (large sedan, sports, compact SUV, 4WD):
1) $1075 and $1150
2) $850 and $900 (note this package is also adverstised as for new vehicles only;

The only quote for window tinting I have obtained is from the WA agent for 3M Scotchtint as I have been very happy with their product on my existing vehicle over the last nine years. Their quoted prices for the Octavia wagon were:

Black: Colour Stable film, colour derived from Carbon which will maintain appearance with no colour shift or fading - Guaranteed. Contains no metals at all so it won't interfere with embedded aerials in glass, GPS or Bluetooth devices. Will block 99% of UV rays, strong heat and glare reduction properties, providing 25% heat reduction.


CS35 $420


Crystalline: Multi-layered Nano technology film. Contains no metals at all so it won't interfere with embedded aerials in glass, GPS or Bluetooth devices. Blocks 99.9% of UV and 97% of Infra-Red energy. Excellent heat performance providing 50% heat reduction.


CR40 $700


Both of these are available in the darkest legal tint. Alternately we have a light version of each should you require enhanced visibility but will still reduce UV and heat entering the vehicle."

Certainly more expensive than the prices being quoted above but in this case I am prepared to pay the extra cost as the car will spend a bit of time in the sun at the golf club.

Don't spend 1500 on anything from the dealer. Speak to a detailer and get a quote off then for opticoat, cquartz nanolex or one of the others. Will be better and half the price of the dealers.

If you invest 5-600 in cleaning products/gerni/foam lance and learn how to wash and protect your car yourself you will never pay that sort of money again. I'm slowly gaining bits for my kit (probably 1k worth of gear or more now) and it's easy to keep the car looking showroom new. I can correct paint defects (swirls etc) but because I have learnt to wash it properly, I rarely get them.

Also, vw cars (vw, Skoda, Audi etc) have 'medium' paint - thicker and much harder than asian brands, so you get far less marks even without protection.

Tint you can get a very good job for $350, with top quality 3M or suntek films.

Good luck, research lots and never trust a dealer.

I am now looking at investing in cleaning products/equipment as GTR27 recommends. There are some great websites/forums available; MAZSTAR (I think that username is spelt right) who posts on this forum, provided a link sometime ago on Detailing World forum listing the products/processes he uses for his Skoda Octavia RS Sedan; a search should find his post.

Hey,

Dealer tried to sell me the usual tinting, paint protection, fabric protection stuff. I think they were offering $1600 or $1800 supposedly end of fin year tinting is free in the package. Looking at reflect effect website it's paint protection was about $900 for a wagon , Tinting around $300, interior $400 which would be about the $1600 mark.

Firstly, has anyone had the interior done? was it worth it and what really is the purpose?

Secondly, assuming they are all a good idea ( i want tinting regardless) should i just go with the dealer considering it could be competitive although i have only compared to 1 competitor?

The paint protection via the dealer will be quite different to that offered by a detailer. The dealer won't do paint correction & you will find the conditions of the warranty to be quite onerous.

Although the prices are similar, the actual work done is quite different.

Try Car Care Products in Five Dock. The exterior price sounds about right for paint correction & full protection. The interior sounds a bit expensive but it depends on what they actually do.

I have a lot of the gear to DIY but sadly, no time to do it.

We ended up doing the Tint through Barbagello at around $430. Was not that much more than other options. Quality is great and it meant that on the day the car was collected it was already done. Whoever they outsource their tinting to does all their work including Ferarri, Jaguar etc across the street. I cant fault the finished work.

As far as Paint Protection we ended up using Freedom Car Care using Opticoat. Mark did a great Job. He is obsessive and takes his time. Certainly more than the eastern states cost wise but thats the reality of Perth.

I get nothing out of it, except the good feeling of getting a great deal for someone and growing the Skoda community. =D

To their credit Barbagello haven't been pushy, but then again they are walking on egg shells with me given I have been waiting more than 12 months for our car.

I can't justify the prices being quoted by Mark at Freedom Car Care as I am still dubious about the merits of paint protection. Demon Detailing, located not far from Barbagello Skoda in Osborne Park are offering Williams F1 Ceramic Coat for $699 and that appears to be for both inside and outside. I am awaiting a response from them about what process they use to apply the product and how many coats etc. I will post information when I hear back from them.

While I generally subscribe to the view you get what you pay for, I am very sceptical about the merits of paint protection. I am therefore reluctant to pay the prices being quoted for Opti-coat Pro in Perth.

As for tinting, I am reluctant to let Barbagello have our car for anymore time than necessary to do the PDI. The car is apparently being delivered at 3.30pm by Patricks and we still don't know if we will be able to collect the car this week. Hence when we collect the car I will be taking it to 3M in Osborne Park for tinting, even if its costs more money.

Anyone interested the new MY16 brochure will be out this month, confirmation from Skoda as i had asked for an updated MRDP when a local dealer told me they were $1k more than the MY15.
