I'm looking at purchasing an Octavia wagon to replace my old 99 Ford Laser, I would be keen for an Ambition Plus if i can get the 1.2% finance and 2 year warranty, with or without tech pack.

Alternatively, i would settle for an Ambition with travel pack, metallic paint and 2 years extended warranty.

I went to a dealer on the weekend, he was trying to make a sale saying would i buy today for $29k, then $28k and then $27k. I was tempted but said i wanted to think things over. As i was leaving i re-hashed the specs i wanted and confirmed the price of $27k and he says no i said "would you buy right now for $27k, i'd have to speak to my manager first but should be $28-$29k" Is this a common tactic? Would he have sold for $27k?

anyway what does everyone think would be a good price for either model?
If that is a good deal depends on the specs If he can do it for $27k today, its almost certain he can do it tomorrow. Its about putting doubt in your mind. Leave your number with them and tell them you are serious if they can present you with the right price. On a slow month, a great sales manager would be keen to contact you to do a deal. They are very coy about customers shopping around these days though, getting a good price out of them can be near impossible unless you are ready to sign and they can get you in their office to sweat a price out of you.

I aim for around 10% off the drive away price after trade in consideration. But some people are astute bargainers and get more. And sometimes right place right time can mean a big discount too.

No, $27k for Ambition with Travel pack, Metallic paint and extended warranty. The difference between Ambition and Ambition plus is about $2.5k if you get the travel pack with the Ambition. The tech pack on top of that is another $3,900. So would come to about $36,790 before negotiating, probably a little more than what i want to spend which if i couldn't get the 1.2% finance.
Extended warranty is free on the 1.2%? Be careful the computer screen readout. They love to show you how much it all *should* be. My dealer was showing me over $40k for my Superb and I suggested he go to the Skoda website to check his figures which should be more like $36k Once we had a real starting point off we went.

So if its a DSG ambition wagon, travel pack and metallic paint, driveway price is $28740. For mine $27k would sound better if it was closer to $26k If you haven't already - maybe find out if they have one for immediate delivery or if you are waiting 6 months for it, that might factor in to how much you want it and how hard you want to bargain.

      • no, it didn't qualify for the 1.2% and extended warranty offer, they claimed none available in Australia (possibly) and obviously none available in store that qualify.

it worked out about a few hundred over $30k, that was working off the Skoda website pricing.

This was in Rockdale Skoda, i might call around other dealers as well although i'm not in any rush so will see what happens.

        • If anyone is looking for an Octavia that qualifies for the 1.8% finance deal 1 Sydney Dealer has 2;
Ambition plus Sedan, Sat Nav, Metallic paint (not sure on colour)
Ambition Plus Wagon, Sat Nav, Metallic Grey (i think), auto tailgate

I have no interest in paying $2.6k for the Sat Nav so not pursuing it, probably why they haven't sold yet.

          • I'm finding it unbelievably difficult to get any kind of deal,
negotiating today my local dealer has an MY16 Ambition plus with tech pack, auto tailgate and metallic paint arriving in Aug.
The MY16 model is $1k more than MY15 mostly due to 110 Tsi engine, he would only give me a little over $1k discount which came to $35,500.
He showed me and i agree the on road costs are already subsidised by Skoda an example an i30 tourer as on roads of $3.8k but the Ambition plus is $2.3k so potentially $2.5k discount or 6.8%.

What have been peoples experience? convenience wise my rego is up in Oct so good timing, however i could just do 6 months next time.
Also, what do people think about the warranty is the extended warranty needed?

            • It's not subsidised by Skoda. It's not like they are paying $3.8k in stamp duty and registration costs but only billing you $2.3k. They have merely reduced the dealer delivery gouge compared to Hyundai. And if your dealer is not willing to move, find another dealer. A Sydney dealer was willing to give me $37k for a vRS with metallic paint as the only option. $35.5k for a a Ambition Plus is really expensive.

              • Make them work for your business. Just tell him this is how much you are willing to pay if they want you business. Else I would shop around. I'm sure other dealers will have stock coming in the coming months

It's really up to you, but for me that price is way too much for an ambition plus, you're almost entering VRS territory.

                • Do you really think that a Hyundai buyer really pays 3.8K in on-roads (the bulk be dealer delivery)?

To be honest i wouldn't have a clue, i've never bought a new car before. Which is why i'm asking the questions here. I've asked a few places without much luck.
Might be better to wait till after the end of financial year sale,

If you know the spec you want then start ringing around. Don't ask what they will come down to, tell them what you are willing to pay. The Skoda website tells you what the starting price is, aim for 10% off that.

You haven't said what gearbox you are considering. Assuming DSG the Skoda configurator brings your spec in at $35,630 for a 103tsi. I really doubt that an extra 7kw will cost $1k - that's just dealer BS.

I'd think you should get an MY15 for $32,500 fairly easily. An MY16 might be a few hundred more with some hard negotiating.

Picked up our Ambition+ wagon on the weekend. Manual, no options in Silver.

Ended up getting 4.9L/100km on a run from Katoomba back to Sydney CBD. More than stoked!

If you're willing to travel interstate for the car, I suggest contacting John from Peninsula Skoda in Melbourne.

The price I'm paying for the same spec plus 2 year warranty is significantly lower than what you've been quoted

Please don't try for economy in a new engine or you will be complaining about oil consumption later.

BTW: my extremely well run-in 1.8tsi gets about the same (4.6L/100km) from Mt Victoria to Hurstville bypassing the M7 section. It's pretty much down hill all the way. It's the run back up that counts - 8.2l/100

                            • I bought what was the top of the range Hyundai Sante Fe in late 2011, I didn't pay anything near that amount in onroads. I'm sure there are people who do everyday without blinking, but those numbers are pretty much all padding which is why companies had to start showing the driveaway price rather than RRP. To show up the guys doing that. I know Mazda the reality is about $250 for the getting it ready stuff and about $750 for rego and shipping etc. Add a bit more as rego has gone up quite a bit, but that was it in 2006.
