Also, I've noticed that the VW TSIs (GTI) have them. Strange that they do and the Skoda doesn't.
I got one fitted on mine - I convinced the sales person it should have been there & they got it as warranty (pulled one off the TDI floor stock i think & claimed it that way.) but that was back in 2008 and Skoda dealers didn't have a clue about the cars & were bending over backwards to make people happy.

I mainly wanted mine so the engine heated up quicker & also to stop the heat of the engine bay affecting the paint on the bonnet (I had a ZD Fairlane 302 & the bonnet got crows feet in the paint due to high under bonnet temps - I realise the Fairlane was near 50 year old paint tech but I like to obsess

If you're paying out of your own pocket then drive around for a bit & see what you think - some of the other guys think they are too quiet without the insulator.

      • Having lived with the new RS for almost a week, i can confirm that it doesn't come with under bonnet insulation. In my opinion, it's not needed. The engine purr along very quietly at cruising speed (for the 162TSI at least) and have enough growl noise under load. Can't imagine muffling anymore of the already limited noise.

        • Any thoughts on the Artificial Sound Generator and if it varies with the various driving modes? Have you noticed anyway to moderate this? Apparently discussion in the Golf forums shows people adjusting this via the OBCD? port. Would be ideal if this could be tweaked via the mode button. Perhaps in a future firmware.

99Reza has one the early models without the Driving Mode and Sound Gen.

But yes the mode you're in does alter the level of the sound gen and you can also adjust it via VCDS.

              • What the above said . My car doesn't have Sound Generator. I don't believe that the car needs it at all. It's has the right amount of noise.

                • I test drove an RS without a sound generator (or drive mode select) before i realised there was meant to be one and an RS with a sound generator a few hours afterwards when i noticed there was a mode select button the other didn't have - the dealer didn't even realise the difference as the second care was new in. There was a noticeable difference between the two and i (we - the missus and i) both preferred the one with the sound enhancement feature. I'm not sure we would have bought it without tbh. It made that much difference to us (me particularly). Personal preference of course - the car was in direct competition to an Audi S3 which sounded awesome, if a little pricey (and smaller).

That said, i couldn't really hear it in the back, which is less good for the gloat factor.

                  • I thought S3 is somewhat in line with Golf R?? Where as RS more towards GTI.

I've heard the new Golf R, yes it sounded awesome. That's good to hear, something to make an already good car even better.

And you'd be right of course...they're in different leagues really. For the money the RS was too difficult to pass up - we would have been looking at $66k+ for the S3 and couldn't justify it when we actually needed a larger car than we have... But Jesus that Audi was quick, especially in the corners. The S3 may be our next car, next year... haha

I had a look at the S3 sedan before ordering the Octavia RS. The S3 really is a faster car, and the engine just felt more exciting. The interior is really nice as well, definitely the most luxurious feeling cabin at this size/price. However, I couldn't justify the extra $20-25k over the Skoda, sure the Audi is nice, but it's not 50% nicer

Another factor is the interior space. The S3 sedan looks great, but the rear seats are quite compromised in head room. The S3 hatch is better in this regard, but the hatch looks a bit boring to my eyes. There is also a difference with the rear leg room, the Skoda is only 50mm more in wheelbase compared to the Audi, but there is a noticeable difference for me. In the back of the Audi, my knees would be touching the front seats, whereas in the Skoda, there is a gap between the front seats and my knees

Yeah there are were so many factors leading us to the RS. Tbh we both preferred the S3 and would have bought it without hesitation in different circumstances but it's not the most practical of cars really when compared to the space and value of the RS. Would be a blast if bought for purely a city/fun car. We test drove the sedan but totally fell in love with the sportback design. Each to their own i guess - i'm just glad we test drove it or we never would have known.

                          • Just a quick update. May 16 order. Today I got all the NADCON Volkwagen group vehicle info. It shows Build Week 28.

1.So I now have a Vehicle ID, Chassis and Engine number.

                            2. I then went here:

and posted the chassis number in the Cargo ID section. It tells me the ship is the "Glorious Leader" and is on the move with an ETA of 30/8. The voyage started in Bremerhaven, Germany (30/7)and is at this moment in Zeebrugge, Belgium.

With the Ship name you can go here:

Ships currently in range - AIS Marine Traffic

Lots of data and tracking info on the ship.

Thoughts this might be of interest to some. So 30 days from Germany to Fremantle.

                            • That's a quick ship! Everyone was telling me 2-3 months from build to delivery! if it's 30 days on a ship, 2 months would be the absolute most (waiting for ship, transport to ship/off ship then to dealer).

                              Lucky you!

Do you have tech pack or anything that holds it up? I dont understand how I can have ordered 7th may and still not even have a build date.....

EDIT: I see you have a hatch and DSG.....that's probably why. Wagon/estates seem more popular on briskoda and many there say estate delays build.

Has anyone else ordered a MANUAL octavia, regardless of RS or normal? Or am I literally the only one?

                              • TSI DSG Hatch with Tech and Black pack. I think wagons have a longer lead time plus I have heard the panoramic roof slows things as well. As others have mentioned a Tech pack with reversing camera will severely delay an order. Then you also here of ACC parts shortage so I think their is a bit of luck in all this.
