  • So I wondered why the base models are so cheap in this version. So cheap that they even udercut the golf in some circumstances. It turns out that all models below 110kw have torsen bar rear suspension instead of the old models independent. This is backwards step in my opinion. But for many its probably not going to be noticed. Only the price will matter to most.

    • From what I've read the torsen bar setup in the new car is more than fine for the "average" car owner. The new golf too has models using a torsen bar setup.

      • torsion beam. Torsen is a type of slippery diff

I'm not sure why you'd have an issue with it. SOme of the best handling, ex-factory vehicles I've driven had a torsion beam arse-end. Ford Fiesta of around 2005 springs to mind. You can still tweak them a bit too.

At the moment possibly not but by about next April/May/ June then 10% is realistic on theAmbition Plus & Elegance but not the entry level "forecourt traffic encouragement device"

            Or is that unslippery diff?

206 GTi has a torsion bum too, handles good.

            • Why is there such a discrepancy between onroad costs between the models? It varies between $1300 and $3300. Why does the onroad costs increase by $1000 between the Ambition and Ambition Plus?

              • Be aware... Rain sensing wipers not in Ambition or Ambition Plus as standard. Looks like auto headlights aren't either if thats what is meant by Light Assist. Not on the option list either, you have to get the tech pack. Have both on my 2010 Scout and I was considering the Ambition Plus before I saw that. Grrrr....

I'm assuming they are quoting NSW onroads so they will bend you over at any opportunity. Stamp duty increases with value. Rego increseases with engine size? & weight? Green slip varies as well?

maybe they are just x-subsidising the price leader to generate showroom traffic.

                  • I was to Peninsula Skoda today to get my car checked, and saw the New Octavia 103?. i also saw a set of the new RS wheels for sale!
Was too worried about my car and getting back to work, that i did not ask for any pricing. Although the Wheels and Nexen tyres were $3300.

                    • I went to put an order in for an Ambition Wagon with Travel Pack. None in the country apparently. ETA April to June.

Not to impressed with that to be honest. How could you balls up a release so much?

                      • Geeze, I thought the whole point of delaying release for so long was to build up stock like they did with Skodas launch in 2007....well done. I'm betting no RSs to be delivered until the end of next year....seems like I most likely will be getting one in 2015.

So did they give any indication what was in the country? I'd even be asking another dealer in case you got a lazy git.

                          • Actually this dealer was the best I have dealt with. I've spoken to about seven or eight in the last week, even calling Skoda directly.

Absolutely none in the country for delivery.

                            • I assume nothing even close to your spec they would do a deal on (Ambition plus?).

                              Anyway, hopeless.

                              • I requested a list of all wagons in Australia. No ambition or ambition plus wagons in Australia for delivery. The pre prod cars available in showrooms are not to be sold until March or something.
