Some good progress on Sunday that just passed. Should get the new head and bottom end this week then start reassembling it on the stand and bolting the new bits on. Also got some new funny plates on layby for when it's back on the road. 25WHP TDI

    • Good to see it coming along mate. You said you ended up going for supertech exhaust valves. Will you run OE intake valves, or supertech inlet too? Which springs did you decide on?

      • Thanks mate. I just did the exhaust valves. Intake valves and springs all round being used. The springs are only required if you want high revs past 7500 to prevent valve float and stock intake valves are good for pretty massive power.

        • Got my head and bottom end back last week so I spent part of Sunday starting to bolt stuff back together and test fitted the turbo/manifold (turbo needs to be clocked nearly 180 degrees). Came to a stop when I found out the bolt that the timing roller sits on is actually 10mm in the AJL head vs 8mm in the BJX head so luckily Gav is sending me a special reducing stud this week so I can continue on. Also Dropped some bits off to the powder coaters today to have them done before this weekend then will crack on with some more install work.

Amen! The other two solution to resolving the issue weren't great, so it's very handy Gav had one sitting around.

              • Hey Louis who supplied you with the Supertech valves? Are you going to run OEM guides/seals and retainers?

I got them directly off Integrated Engineering's website. They were about $300-350 AUD landed IIRC.

Yup, OEM guides, seals and retainers but I replaced the valve guides and seals during the swap into the large port head.

                  • did you go oversize on the exhaust valves. Dammit - my wife was just in new York and I got a few things sent to her hotel to bring home. I was a bit late on deciding which valves to go for but now I'm regretting it!

                    • I just went for the stock sized valves. That price I mentioned above was with one of the faster shipping options so I could get them to the builder as quickly as I could.

Also got my powder coated bits back this week

                      • Nice. That inlet manifold is glory. Bit too big for my wifes luggage though unfortunately.

                        • More pics. Started bolting on some more bits tonight and will measure up water and oil lines tomorrow while the turbo is sitting on there

                          • Looking good. Love it in black too. How strongly do the TFSI coils seat within the adapters - I presume they are IE ones? Are the coils as solid as the oem's were within the cam cover or do they feel a bit less secure? I only ask because my R8 coils are seated on those cheap plastic adapters until I can get a phenolic copy of them made. I can't say I'm overly enthused as to how solidly the coils seat within them though, so just wondering what your are like.

                            • Thanks mate. I can't recall which company made these spacers but it wasn't IE. My coilpacks sit nicely in them, I would say they are very close to how the stock ones sat in there in terms of firmness.
