Car porn - love it! So external wastegate eh. It'll be tight where its exit pipe run against the firewall yeah. Are you making up a brace or something to support all that weight?

Thanks Sam. Yeah definitely planning on some sort of bracing, just to take the load of the turbo.
Yep! It'll all be a snug fit in there, but I'll make it fit2006 GTI Polo - Big Turbo Build - Louis19's Build Thread

Next few bits underway. Battery relocation nearly completed, just need to tidy up the wiring and finish the boxing fitment.
Also had my box of IC piping arrive today so this weekend I'll be piecing as much of that together as I can.

Used the same hole in the firewall that most use to route boost gauge hosing through. I just ground it out a little bit larger to allow room for the extra wiring.2006 GTI Polo - Big Turbo Build - Louis19's Build Thread

The IC is in a good spot with the hot side blowing in nice and low in all that clean airflow through the lower grille. Looks like you've cut away a fair bit of the fibreglass front apron above the radiator where the CAI feed usually is. Is that so you can get a proper size air feed through?

Yeah should flow quite well I think.
Yup, just to try and maximise the amount of flow I can get through that section where it feeds the CAI.2006 GTI Polo - Big Turbo Build - Louis19's Build Thread

Some more progress and photos. Got the throttle body side of the intercooler piping done this week, so once that was in and mounted nicely, I could pull it back out along with the intake manifold to be stripped apart, cleaned and be sent off to the powder coaters this week.
I ended up ordering some supertech exhaust valves which will arrive next week and then be sent straight to the engine builder to install then in the new head.
With any luck I think I'll get the engine back in the coming weeks to start reassembling it and then pull the other engine out and new one can go in to check how everything is going to fit

Yes, if you ever look down on it from the top, the whole radiator and aircon core assembly doesn't actually sit square to the crash bar, it's slightly diagonal which means the driver side sits closer to the crash bar. Also being that the end tank of the aircon core sits on the drivers side along with the some solid lines, it means you have less room to work with on that side. If you deleted the air con completely you would have loads of room to work with but that wasn't something I was prepared to compromise on with the way QLD heat gets.2006 GTI Polo - Big Turbo Build - Louis19's Build Thread
