Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Since the rotor are a chunk of gray cast iron, I think what is happening is that the pad material that gets deposited on to the surface of the rotor is glazing with the heat - are you finding that the pads are also glazed in these instances?
And what have you done, afterwards? Replaced them?

    • I'd hazard a guess your bushes in the back may be shot. I had a similar issue in my old starlet. Replaced bushes and it didn't move around so much under brakes.

If they are, then they'll be replaced on warranty since the car is so new!!

It really did feel like what happens with too much preload on the rear of a motorcycle or when you brake hard enough to get the rear off the ground (and I severely doubt the Polo was doing that).

So does the MKIV jetta/golf kit fit our 9n polos? All 9n/3 engines can use the same kit, the g60 kit right?

Yeah, I've just done mine. . Our (ASZ motor) is a 6 bolt flywheel, but the pattern is what is important from what I understood.

                            • Just picked up a set of 8L S3 brakes... Another thing to add to the car when I get it back...

                              • Where'd you find them, blitzen? I've been keeping an eye out for a cost effective brake upgrade for my Po and s3 brakes were top of the list but I haven't managed to find any as yet.
