What did you do to your Polo today?

Spent the day out at Lakeside playing with Porkas.
Car seems capable of 66's with really just basic, stuff, It has coilovers, exhaust, ECU Flash, PD160 Intake and that is it out of a TDI. (There was no timing for the afternoon sessions when I was running but I was able to stay out of reach of my mates 930 Porka which does 65.5's around Lakeside.
Couple of issues. Needs more camber in the front so going to organise a set of KMac front camber tops. The other issue is EGT's with the stock SMIC and that crappy little turbo it is just getting too hot on the EGT Side of it. So I am going to have to move forward the plans to fit the bigger turbo and intercooler and an LSD at the same time.
OH and the other issue is the brakes. I had no brake fade but I have glazed the brakes so that is another issue to fix which will be the 312mm 2 Piece brakes with the Porsche Boxster Calipers. So a few things to get done but the car handled fairly well.
Also the car has no rear sway bar fitted and honestly feels like it isn't required at all, atleast at this stage.


But it seems promising, I mean I really only need to drop 6 - 7 seconds off the current time to be up with the quick cars at Lakeside.Last edited by Evaded Motorsport; 13-06-2011, 12:10 PM.2008 VW Polo TDi

Just got back from Winton
Best lap was a 1:49.3
Which I was happy with, being first time on track, went out on the last run hoping to get it into the 48's but got too much traffic.
Little car did well, there was a XR6 ford which it was way quicker than, also kept up with a nice 370ZMODS- TOO MANY

Why? The old section really flows and is great for small cars (yes the new section is boring but it lets the guys with horsepower open up).
I could only just break 1:55, yesterday.

- I'm thinking I was close to running out...

So what causes glazed rotors? Is it the pads? Cos mine are pretty shatty - actually quite awful and scorched from half a dozen track days. Lakeside is a fun little circuit, but must be respected. I was running 66's in the stock gti (only H&R lowered springs) on my first outing there, but the lack of suspension compliance made the dogleg with mid corner bump on the straight a butt clencher every time. Long and short is heat and the inability to deal with that heat. I'm in a Polo TDI so I only have the 256mm Brakes. I didn't get any brake fade as I was using good Pads and fluid but If it was 5 laps straight flat out they would of been killed I guess.Originally posted by seangti View PostSo what causes glazed rotors? Power isn't my issue, I just brake late and hard (have to make up for having a slow diesel somehow)

Greg from GSLRallysports told me that pads can glaze when used with rotors that have been used with different pads due to material pickup.
On a side note, yeaterday, I found that I had to put my rear seats back in to keep the car stable when braking really hard
, else the rear wanted to overtake the front. I suspect my B12 springs are a bit hard and causing the suspension to top out in this instance

Glazed rotors and they are the only pads to ever be on with that set of discs. really, don't have one pad sticking a little more? The OEM tyres could well have something to do with it (UTQG rating of 240).
I had no problem at all with braking power but the pedal did get soft after a few laps (was too busy to count
)
